From the Dublin road you can just follow the signs, go through the gate and grab your toddler by the hand and run with him the hill down. You will then be at the Ladywell Shrine. This place was famous as a pilgrimage site and is still used for that. It is said that at the water in the well is raising at the feast of assumption.
The association behind the shrine is making an event out of that in which you can`t get coffee but buy cheap religious tat and the shrine turns to some kind of flea market. The pilgrims who are present take the opportunity to collect some water of the well.
The well as such is very well maintained by the locals. They do great work to clean after the drunk who are using this site as hangout and the locals also are keen in trimming the bushes and removing possible graffiti.
Unfortunately, this place is also a hangout for some groups of drunks. They are usually friendly enough to strangers and only try to kill each other if you don`t get to close but they are also leaving a trail of litter from this site up to the Lidl. This makes the site often an unpleasant place.
I`m using this place on my way to do my shopping but I wouldn`t let my son let go alone to this place due to the potential other "visitors"

Made a visit here as part of a game called Geocaching. After completing that game I spent some time contemplating. On a rainy day it was very peaceful.
From Geocaching.com "Ladywell in Dundalk is a well maintained well and enclosure looked after by the local community and Louth County Council
The well was once surrounded in a very dramatic way by tall, thin trees which no doubt added to its mystique. In the early 1900’s, along with Saint Brigid’s well, it was one of the best known wells of the north-east of Ireland.
The well house is the original structure apart from the cross over the entrance; although the tarmacadam surrounding the whole well site has removed any vestige of the grass plain that was once here. Modern stations of the cross have also been erected around the well along with railings to act as an enclosure. The steps down to the well itself are also a recent addition
In the past this well was said to be dry for 364 days in the year and that the water only magically appeared on the feast of the Assumption. Today the well is practically brimming over and it’s well past the feast! Locals say that the well level rises during the feast of the Assumption; other locals say a pump is turned on in one of the adjoining houses to make the water rise! "

Ladywell Shrine (or Our Lady's Well) - It is hidden away, but can be accessed via a path that leads off the Dublin Rd - it is well signposted with an entrance gate. Pattern takes place here on 15 August, during the feast of the assumption. It's a holy well, if you are on a pilgrimage, you should visit.
