Started this walk from car park in Buncranna, late one afternoon.
4 adults and 2 grandchildren aged 6 and 8
Easy walk on a paved path along the banks of Loch Swilly.
Great views across the Loch and lovely beach at the end of the path. Took about an hour each way
Interesting monument to Father Hegarty near the end..
Recommended.

Great scooter and family friendly walk with something for everyone. We started at festival park where there was a cool playground and toilets (sadly no toilet roll or soap in the toilets). We then went along passing an interesting mosaic area which the kids enjoyed spotting things in. Crossing over the old bridge we reached the RNLI for a rest and coffee stop before continuing to the monument. At this point we returned to picnic on a nearby beach, which was lovely (although lots of jellyfish in the water). Finally returning to the playground and having ice creams in the town. All in all this walk is a must do activity if you are holidaying with kids as everyone enjoyed it and it was a cheap day out.

What a location to rest. The monument to this martyr is well-tended, right on the shore walk in Buncrana. His story is touching.

For anyone up for a we walk this is not a big task but the views and unspoiled beaches that await you are well worth it. Unfortunately the fairy forest is still closed due to storm damage so our little was not impressed(come on Donegal CC).

Father Hegartys Rock can be found on the coastal path between Ned's Point Fort and Porthaw Beach .

You can walk this route from anyplace in Buncrana. The views of the Swilly and the shores on the far side are beautiful as are the views of Inch Island whilst you get some really good exercise.

Walked up from Buncrana Pier took about an hour but you can walk from RNLI base, Beautiful views and great footpath saw very few people on a rainy Friday, Gets quite steep up near the rock and wear decent boots or runners.

This is truly beautiful coastal walk. From Buncrana, walk to bridge, from there its well signposted.
The path is well maintained , & fairly easy for anyone, as it gently undulates. The scenery is simply astounding, it's hard to believe it is so close to town. It follows the coast, & past some lovely small sandy beaches. Fr Hegarty's rock is about 1km along, set by the side of the path. It is a simple memorial, & quite moving.
From here, it"s not far to complete the coastal path, which ends at a long, empty sandy beach. Along the entirety, there are stunning sea & mountain views across to Inch Island & Rathmullen.
There are seats/benches at regular intervals along the route.
Highly recommend it; the entire route is only about 2 km each way.

Hi,
Myself, Husband and our 2 daughter are travelling from Ireland for a family wedding and will be arriving with you on Wednesday 13th May, late in the evening, and will be staying in your hotel for 4 nights, I hope you don't mind me asking but would it be at all possible if the 2 rooms could be on the same floor, our daughters are 18 and 14,but as it is a wedding we will have loads of dressing,hair makeup etc to do. I am so looking forward to staying with yous and your reviews have been really good. See you on the 13th
