Absolutely shocking experience.
Enclosures were in very poor condition and the majority of them were also empty.
The very few animals they did have looked very unhealthy and malnourished.
Toilets were blocked and dirty.
£31.40 entry charge for 2 adults and a newborn baby is rather expensive considering the complete lack of animals present the poor condition of the whole site in general.
Frankly you’d be better off taking a tent and camping in the middle of Dartmoor for the night, it’s cheaper and you’d see so much more wild life.
Definitely will not be going again.

Beautiful zoo in woodland, lots greenery trees plants, animals very relaxed sunbathing, staff very friendly. We couldn’t see a guidebook anywhere but would have happily bought one as it would be good to know about the history of the zoo up to current day. Would definitely recommend visiting 😃

My husband and I visited Dartmoor zoo on a very misty day but we had a fantastic time. Every single staff member was just a joy to talk to, which added to the magic of how much they care for the animals and their jobs.
The cafe was wonderful, I am Ceoliac and there was choice there for me including delicious paninis.
I bought my husband the otter experience for Christmas and we finally got round to doing it today. The experience started at the end of the day (3.30) and we didn’t feel rushed, the keeper was knowledgable about the otters and told us about the other animals which really reinforced what we had been feeling all day, that the animals are really cared for. I believe there were 10 otters that we fed (they are so flipping cute!!!) I highly recommend doing this experience or the other experiences they have to offer as they are worth the money as they are part of your park ticket and you get to spend time being close to the animals.
The big cats (there are 5 in separate enclosures) are just amazing, we were in awe of all of them and each one had a story. Each enclosure was a good size and the keeper told us about the welfare checks that are done on the animals there and the ones that are alone have minimum 2 a week. He also told us about the enrichment activities they do for all the animals.
It’s a small zoo (and a bit hilly) but the quality of animals makes it the best zoo I’ve ever been to. You could spend all day there as it’s not to tiring to revisit enclosures if you wanted to. Also, there’s a resident cat called Amy which gives the zoo even more character!
Next time we are going to bring a picnic and hope for better weather, there were great picnic spots all over the zoo!

(Aug 22 review). We (my wife and two daughters) came here whilst on holiday in Plymouth, and we are so glad we did. The pedestrian areas are generally well placed to allow you to see all the animals and the animals seemed content. The only thing to watch out for is there is a steep climb from the car park to the main part of the zoo, but you do get to see animals on this "hike" as my daughters called it.
Definitely a place to go.

Really unhappy with the service after paying good money to go in there no one there to help cos there was a wedding on so that was more important than payingcustomer. There was no where to have lunch cos of the wedding and there was only 1 toilet cos of the wedding what isn't very good for kids. then you got people walking around with alcohol what I didn't realise the zoo was a pub really good for the kids to see really unhappy

A brilliant small zoo with very well cared for animals.
The Big cats are my personal favourites..with very photographer friendly enclosures
We last visited a few years ago...and since then they have come on leaps and bounds
New enclosures and new animals

Hi lookey01, it’s so nice to hear you loved our Zoo. It is a small zoo, and the most important thing to us is that our animals are well cared for! We are glad you enjoyed your day, especially the big cats, and photographer-friendly enclosures. We just got married at Dartmoor Zoo. Fantastic venue. All came together seamlessly and beautifully. The staff were amazing. The roaring lions were a pretty cool backdrop to entertain children.!
We were offered various animal experiences, we choose to feed otters and the tiger.
The food was fantastic and so much of it!
Overall great wedding venue :)

Congratulations on your wedding at Dartmoor Zoo! It sounds like you had an incredible experience. We are very proud of our amazing staff, and what a unique backdrop with our wonderful, roaring Big Cats!

Lovely place, staff all were friendly,knowledgeable and eager to please, great to see the big cats without wire so could get good photos. Would definitely go again if in the area

What a fantastic day out this was. On the smaller side but we were still the first ones to arrive and the last to leave! Nice large enclosures, helpful staff and great talks/feeds by the volunteers. Sorry I can't remember their names!
For families they have two great play areas where you can still and watch the animals at the same time.
Clean, tidy, you couldn't ask for more. Definitely come back again if I was in the area.
One suggestion - either a guide book or an area about the history of the zoo, with pictures of then and now?

Our visit to the ZOO was for a chain saw course. We took the opportunity to see the animals during our spare time and they did not fail to impress. The Zoo was under going some minor Maintenance but it did not impact our enjoyment.

Hi , I have the walk on the wild side booked for my birthday in July. I just wondered what I may be having a encounter with instead of the raccoon dogs? (I learned they have both passed away)
And will we get to feed the animals directly? Or be able to have them on our lap or touch them? (Id assume no as I know they are wild animals but I thought I’d ask anyways just in case ☺️)

Hi. Yes we are open every day except Christmas Day. There is a list of all the mammals, birds and reptiles on our web site - tigers, lions, cheetah, jaguar, raccoon dogs, tapir, capybara, ostrich, lots of snakes etc etc. Hope to see you soon.

Yes it's free. There is a fairly steep climb up to the zoo but if you are disabled, pay for tickets first & then you can drive up the hill & park by the cafe.

Hi Becky, Thank you for your enquiry. The 22nd Sept is currently free for ''Meeting the Tigers''. The experience always starts at 11am with a health and safety briefing - important as you will then be taken in to the tiger house. You are arms length away from them and this is truly a spine tingling experience. You can take photos and ask questions while our beautiful tigers are prowling just a couple of feet away. Do you have anywhere to change disabled children that are in wheelchairs?
They are far to big for a baby changing table and can't use a disabled toilet.

Hi, Yes we do birthday parties for 2 year olds that can include a Close Encounters session for them. If you'd like to give us a call we can have a chat about the options. Also, there are 2 public Close Encounter sessions a day at 12pm and 3.30pm. Hope this helps.
