Amazing experience! The 'Big 5' activities provided a thoroughly enjoyable day out! Stayed for 2 nights as a stag group, based in the bunkhouse by scar reservoir, out the way which was greatxand scenery beautiful!

Having never been gorge walking, I wasn't sure what to expect but to start with an abseil was really eye opening. The experience itself was incredible and I will definitely be coming back with the rest of the family. Thanks especially to Elliot who was a really knowledgeable, encouraging and supportive guide.

Amazing couple of days spent in North Yorkshire at How Stean Gorge. Fantastic staff, amazing facilities and an awe- inspiring gorge walk. We’ll definitely be back!

How Stean Gorge is a beautiful place to visit. As a family who love an adventure (two young adults and two much older ones), we chose to explore it by doing the via ferrata. It provided us with challenge and excitiement as we traversed along the side of the gorge and criss-crossed it in a number of ways, with many laughs along the way. Our instructor, Connor was knowledgeable, friendly and gave clear instructions. Whilst it might not be as high up a mountain as some via ferratas, it was as much fun as ones we have done before and the fact it was in a gorge makes that little bit different. The cafe was also great for pre or post adventure refreshments. We would definitely recommend it.

My husband, son and I went on a caving afternoon adventure, did the gorge walk and ate at the cafe - everything was exceptional - Elliot our caving guide was brilliant - informative and supportive - literally at times! The cafe staff were friendly and helpful and the food delicious - a fantastic place.
We stayed at Studfold camp site nearby for a week - also a great experience - both the Crown at Middlesmoor and Lofthouse great pubs - all round an excellent area to visit

An amazing place with staff who couldn’t be more accommodating. We enjoyed 3 lodges with hot tubs and a large group gorge walk and fabulous breakfast and dinner. Will definitely aim to visit again. Zoe

Great weekend for a stag.
The cabins are clean, tidy and have everything you need to bbq and make a brew. The bunks are comfy and although there are quite a few people to a room it wasn’t crazy. - unless you have a heavy snorer and then consider sticking them on the porch.
The hot tub is log heated and nice for a dip. The access can be a little slippery as it’s over the grass/ mud so take care with that. A little gravel path might make this more pleasant. But nothing that would put me off returning.
Shower and toilet block kept clean throughout the weekend and never more than a few minutes wait.
The breakfast was decent as were the other food options we sampled whilst there.
What really makes this place a great spot to visit is the instructors and staff, they were a pleasure to speak with, knowledgable about their activities, calming, funny and read the room/ group really well. We did the big 5 and there was just enough of each to keep it interesting and everyone wanting more.
Wouldn’t even question going again!! Get it booked .

Lovely small campsite with super clean facilities, added bonus of an on site cafe (with WiFi and charging points), beautiful views, fun activities including the gorge walk, and very friendly staff. Easy walking distance to 2 excellent pubs. One of our favourite sites.

We went for a weekend with friends and family - 30 of us - ranging ages from 8 to 55. We did abseiling and gorge walking and had a wonderful time. They provided wet suits, gloves, socks and helmets. The instructors were lots of fun and very kind to those who were hesitant. They honestly could not have been more accommodating.
We stayed in the chalets on site, used the hot tubs and bbq equipment and ate at the cafe, which was delicious (soup to warm us up after activities, steak pie and the best chunky chips and gravy for tea) - for 30 people - they did such a great job!! And breakfast for us all again the next day. I highly recommend. Beautiful part of the country, lovely staff, fun activities and great accommodation!

We had a fab weekend to celebrate a big birthday. Many of our group stayed in the lodges which were really well equipped and the hot tubs and BBQs added to the enjoyment. Most of our family aged 18 to 59 did the Gorge Walk which was expertly guided by Pete and Jess. We had lots of fun and would definitely recommend it!

How far in advance is recommended to book in the summer holidays? Particularly interested in canoeing. What happens if the weather on the day is poor? Also, how long should we allow for a walk round the gorge before doing a booked activity?

2 Weeks we can make it happen , less we might be able to. If it rains we get wet. If it is too windy you get a full refund and we will offer an alternative activity if you wish. Allow an hour before or after the activity to wander around.

There are two local Pubs both called the crown, one in Lofthouse the other at Middlesmoor.
