This monastery requires a tough 3 hour hike up and around 2 hours down. We went in winter and it is very icey so be prepared for this and wear the right shoes! The view on the top wasn’t as good as I was hoping for. But the hike was challenging which we liked.

I guess past lives are true as when I met the principle of the school there (it is a home for underprivileged kids) I couldn't stop crying. Personal story on the side: it is an amazing place. Stay overnight: the 5am view is worth it! You ARE on top of the world. And you ARE appreciating the beauty of ALL. Found in 13th century by Phajo Drugom Zhigpo (Tibetian lama who spread Buddhism in Bhutan) it is one of the most special places to visit in Bhutan (a meditational site and a pilgrim destination). Actually there is a few buildings there and they are currently undergoing re-construction. Each one has it's special function and meaning. It's a place where a beautiful Green Tara statue and some very important Bhuddist manuscripts (original from Tibet) are kept and preserved.
It is a 3 hour hike but it is well worth it. And again: try to arrange with your guide to stay overnight. The monastery needs donations and attention and you would not regret it as it will be sure to give back. Namgay, the principle, is young, friendly, with a great sense of humor and the monks will treat you the best tea around :)!

Bhutan is a loand of Monasteries and this one is really a good addition to it. Its peaceful and serene.

Take a hike to Phajoding Monastery which is a hike uphill from the Thimphu City. It takes you up the mountain trails and its about a 4 - 7 hour walk depending on your physical condition. It is also possible to visit this place when on the Druk Path Trek (the 4-5 days) between Paro and Thimphu.

It was a little under construction, but still beautiful! The hike is pretty easy and there weren't many people which made it nice and peaceful! I would recommend visiting if you have the time!

Being located quite far away from road head, we considered as sacred place for meditation and long retreat house. The great Phajo Drukgom Zhigpo was the founder of this place and it has story of rich local leader who was reborn as snake guarding his basket of silver coins that he had hidden unground and the snake requested cowboy to carry him Phajo with his assets for offer and finally he was transcended to zangdopelri.

fresh air over the mountain, you can enjoy the seen of mountains of Bhutan over the hills and will have good hiking if you go for hiking over the phajoding

o reino do Butão foi fundado por monges budistas no século 18, e ficou muito tempo isolado do mundo, não só por sua localização, no Himalaia entre a China e a Índia, mas sobretudo porque os reis - sim, é um reinado - assim decidiram. Esse fato fez com que o reino evoluísse em seus próprios valores, com a população educada (todos falam inglês) perseguindo seu objetivo máximo: um reino onde se mede o índice de felicidade dos súditos. Há alguns anos o Butão se abriu ao turismo, mas é algo que deve ser feito com guias locais e tendo permissão nos consulados. Mas vale demais a viagem por região e costumes, visitando aos seus Monastérios, atração principal. Ali - os monastérios são ativos, usados, não apenas santuários - ouvimos cantos, reuniões singelas de meninos monges e outras belas surpresas visuais, como monjas tocando instrumentos de percussão e sinos (em outro mosteiro, não nesse).

There are lots of monastery in Bhutan and this is one of those. Near Thimphu town which will require a bit of walking but if you are a die-hard monastery visitor then recommended.
