DO NOT MISS THIS SITE WHEN TRAVELLING TO HUE. There are many beautiful, old tombs and temples in Vietnam. It would be difficult, however, to imagine one looking more fantastic than this. Imposing and dark from the street, with a large iron gate in front of a long, steep, exterior stairway. After the initial stair climb, there is a landing/ plaza with many life-size sculptures of people and animals. Also there, an ornate pavilion, multiple spires, 5 claw sculpture dragons, more gates, and more stairs... All the stair climbing is worth it once you see the interior of the tomb at the very top.
Eye- popping, detailed, ceramic tiles in all shapes colors and sizes are utterly amazing. It seems no surface was left un- decorated. It is easy to see why the construction took 11 years- 5 years AFTER the death of the Emperor. So happy the tour itinerary included this stop! Able to learn much about this important historical figure, all that he did for Hue and Vietnam. Also happy weather was dry to help manage slippery steps and fully enjoy outdoor areas and sculptures.

Quite a grand tomb for a emperor who reigned for 11 years and the mosaic decorations are really beautiful. There are a few steep steps to get to the tomb with no other access for wheel chairs etc, didnt see any WC,s around either. Gets pretty busy like all tourists spots, lost of buses

There are numerous tombs in this area but we only visited this one, and glad that we did.
The decorations are ornate and in great detail.
We were informed by our guide that Vietnamese artists did the art. However, the cement was from France, ceramics from China and glass from Japan.
I wouldn't have thought that a tomb could be this pretty before I visited this place.
Some statues of officials, soldiers and animals stand at attention on the grounds, resembling the Terracotta Army in Xi'An, China.

We got the hotel to arrange a taxi for us to this tomb, wait for us and return us to the hotel as we did not want to do a tour. It was a great choice and we all enjoyed seeing it at our pace. There are a lot of stairs but so much to see on different levels. Inside the tomb is just so beautiful and unexpected after the grey exterior. We spent probably and hour here looking around. It wasn't too crowded so easy to get photos without loads of people in them.

My wife and I visited Emperor Khai Dinh’s Tomb as part of our “Explore Hue Imperial Palace from Chan May Port” by VM Travel. Emperor Khai Dinh’s Tomb is very elaborate, with many buildings and structures built at several levels. There was much to see. As Hue is some distance from Chan May cruise port, we were happy to have this tour. Besides visiting the elaborate Emperor Khai Dinh’s Tomb, we visited the extensive Hue Imperial Palace, as well as Thien Mu Pagoda. We also had an excellent Vietnamese set lunch at Madam Thu Restaurant.

No disrespect intended, but we weren't expecting to see such an ornate mausoleum in Hue. We didn't mind all the steps we had to climb after beholding Emperor Khai Dinh's lavishly decorated tomb.

We loved this complex. It is set up the same as other toms nearby but the buildings themselves were so ornate and beautiful on the inside. This was by far our favourite Hue site

Hue is famous for its Imperial Citadel, as well for Royal tombs of Nguyen dynasty who ruled Vietnam (under French blessing) from 1802-1945. There're some 7-8 tomb sites scattered around the city southwestern suburbs.
Tomb of Khai Dinh, who was the penultimate Emperor, is the most impressive and ornate one, yet with some kitschy details.
It's elevated from the street level, reaching it through a Chinese style gate via 2 stairways. On the way up to the Mausoleum you pass ornate stone guards on both sides, as well few smaller temples.
The main Mausoleum is a mix of east (Viet and Chinese) and west (French) architecture, which leaves a mixed impression of beauty and kitsch. Interiors are similar - lavishly decorated with mosaics of ceramics, glass, silver,....

Incredible visit, the tomb and the surroundings.
It could be called the gray temple, due to all the color of its exterior, great contrast with the vegetation.
The interior of the tomb full of details in polychrome wood and colored ceramics.

Kai Dinh was not an influential emperor and was not considered popular. His tomb is rather small and is beautifully situated on the hillside. I personally liked the tomb very much and it offers many photo opportunities, although it is of course overloaded and is mainly influenced by French and other foreign cultures. It is worth a visit.

We are 4 people travelling to Hue in February, only one day.
My plan is as following:
8 am - 1 pm Than Toan Bridge / Minh Mang Tomb / Khai Dinh Tomb / Tu Duc Tomb / Pagoda Chua Du
1 am - 2 pm lunch
2 pm - 3.30 the Citadel
4 pm - Thien Mu Pagoda and Perfume river cruise for sunset
Is this plan realistic? I do not know how much time should I devote for each site. We'll go by taxi.
In the afternoon I would like to take a taxi to the pagoda and go back with the cruise.
Are there cruises one way or only both ways?
I would be grateful for all answers

You can arrange a private car/taxi to chauffeur you around to all these locations. This can easily be arranged with help from your hotel receptionist or one of the travel agencies in town (VN travel for instance).
I think boat rides can go one or both ways.
The citadel involves quite a bit of walking, so I'd give that more time than the other sights, It can all be done/seen in one day, especially if you start at 8 am

How long does it take to get to the Tomb of Khai Dinh by taxi from Hue? Also, how much should we expect to pay the taxi for the ride and to wait for us for about an hour? Is this tomb really only 15-20 minutes from the Minh Mang Tomb?
撰写日期:2015年10月12日
All the tombs are near each other and to Hue city, at most 10-15km each leg. We paid 550k for a driver to take us to three tombs and wait 30min for us at each, about 3 hours total.
