I read several reviews and was so glad we weren't scared off. Worth the adventure for these beautiful views! It is important to have a car with AWD and take it slow, because the beginning of the road is very bumpy. But once you get past the first km or so, it feels like you're driving on Mars. You will park close to the trail head, which is a little hard to identify at first and quite narrow of a footpath, it runs across the coastline. The trail will take you down to the water so you can walk past the cannon holes and you can look over towards the big oven (sea cave). The trail does not loop so be prepared to go back the way you came.

The ecological reserve has amazing flora. My family went with a guide and he brought the tundra's flora to life for us. He showed us trees that are full grown and they were only a few inches off the ground.

We were unable to investigate this feature right next to our cabin because it was unobtainable by our vehicle. We drove to the base and immediately turned around due to poor road condition.

It was a rough ride to get to the ecological reserve, but it was incredible! Well worth our time and I wish we’d had longer. There is some unique plant life and the rugged scenery is spectacular. You probably wouldn’t want to do this with very young children. But we had a group with kids ages 10-14 and it was amazing.

We read reviews about “Ted’s Tour” but thought to we could try checking out the area ourselves. Boy were we wrong! As others have mentioned, the road up there is not for the faint hearted and our little rental car stood no chance. I was screeching for my husband to turn around as soon as he could. So, we called and booked a tour with Ted, for the next morning. He drove us up the narrow, crater-filled road with no difficulty in his 4x4 truck. We soon learned it is no wonder the road is in such rough shape, because it is helping to keep this wondrous landscape safe from unknowledgeable visitors who would otherwise wreck it. Ted, with plant guidebook in hand, introduced us to a myriad of beautiful, tiny flora native to this unique ecosystem. He also taught us about frost polygons. To our delight, he spotted an iceberg way in the distance that we never would have spotted ourselves. Finally, he lead us to an amazing sea cave we never would have found on our own. We highly recommend taking Ted’s tour!

A guys named Ted runs a tour there out of the restaurant, he is a local and will tell you all about the history of the place. He doesn't claim to be a botanist and puts that right up front. What he does know is the location of the plants, some are very difficult to find and all are very small. We went for the "stroll and scoff" package, and were treated to a magnificent dinner of lobster after the stroll! I would go again for sure.

We rarely take a tour when we travel, but Ted's, from Burnt Cape Cafe, is a must: the best way to see the highlights, to understand the environment, and to avoid damaging rare Arctic plants. We are very glad we did not bring our rental car to this rough road.

Ted Hedderson of Burnt Cape Cabins gave a superb tour of the micro-flora on the Reserve. Over 300 species.

I ran up to the to of this park each morning. It is not very far and maybe the beginning would cause some drivers concern, but after abut 400m the road is actually rather smooth.
It is kind of desolate looking, but there are some unique plants there if you really look. There is a guide service that will take you if you want. I am not sure how much it is.
I enjoyed my runs in there lots.

We really, really wanted to see this. But we couldn’t even get to the parking lot because the road was so bad. We attempted to walk but laughed out loud when we saw the sign saying you are here, and the parking lot was another good 20 min walk. I don’t just mean potholes, there were exposed boulders. It would be ideal for an atv but the sign specifically says no atvs. Probably a good thing, since people might be enticed to wander off the road and destroy the fragile ecosystem in the process. If you want to see it, pick a nice day, wear good hiking shoes, and park at the bottom of the hill near the beach. Quite a desolate and peaceful place.

Can we book a tour guide for 20 people just for a walk through through the reserve? The date would be Sat. July 14 in the morning. What would the cost be?
