As a food lover, I am always looking for unique dining experiences. Located on a picturesque hill overlooking the picturesque landscape, this restaurant offers a wonderful combination of fine food and fine wines. The highlight is undoubtedly the passionate cook, who puts his creativity and love of cooking into every dish. The menu offers a fine mix of familiar dishes with a surprising twist, using local ingredients and experimenting with different flavours and textures. We decided to try the 10 course menu and each course was a new discovery. From the delicate appetizers with ale the fresh from the Spanish sea to the beautifully grilled meat as main course, every element was prepared with care and attention. The chef knew exactly which ingredients to combine to create a harmony of flavours.
What made this experience even more special was the wine list. Adapted to each dish, some fine wines were served, complementing the flavors of the food. Finally, a (h)onest experience.

I booked in at Bodega Bentomiz after seeing a post from someone wh visited last year, I thought this would be a great way to celebrate my 50th birthday with some friends. I decided to go for the full hit, tour, tasting and 10 course inspirational menu with wine pairing. The setting is just breath taking, the building that houses the restaurant and wine making facilities is well designed and perfectly fits in to the landscape. A short drive from Nerja took us up in to the mountains and we arrived at the Bodega, we were greeted by the team and my birthday celebration acknowledged by the team. Whilst we waited for the tour to start we were provided with jugs of iced water free of charge and this helped us to refresh, the toilets were also exceptionally clean (something I always check). Rina was our host and provided an excellent presentation during the tour of the vineyard. We asked plenty of questions and these were carefully answered that showed a good knowledge and understanding of the subject. Once the tour finished we completed the wine tasting, exceptional quality of wine that we all enjoyed with a sharing platter. I wasn’t sure about a couple of the wines and tasting them initially decided they were not to my taste (i was wrong)! We moved on to the 10 courses and wine pairing, the wines I thought had not been to my taste completely changed once paired with the food. The food was exceptional, great to see the passion and thought that had gone in to the preparation. Everyone in the party enjoyed the day and to top it off, we were invited to see the kitchen by the chef. What an office, views are spectacular. The team at Bodegas Bentomiz really made my celebration special, thank you. The location, food, wine and beauty of this place comes highly recommended. A fantastic day out from Nerja or surrounding towns.

Fine wine and dining are a bit of a holiday obsession for me. Over the years, I have visited many remarkable wineries - and Bodegas Bentomiz stands out as one of the best.
On the quality of the wine alone, it's the one of best I've yet found in Spain. The tour was friendly, highly informative and fun - and the food that followed was exceptional too. The 10 course lunch I ordered, for just €83 (including the tour and tasting), gives some Michelin starred restaurants a serious run for their money, at a fraction of the price! A couple of the dishes... Strawberries and nectarines gazpacho with crispy onion on top paired with the Bentomiz sparkling rosé; Iberian Pork loin with butter curry sauce, roast pumpkin, padron peppers, broccoli and fresh fig, paired with the Ariyanas tinto. Wow.
All this takes place in a convivial environment that suits almost anyone - there was a party of six at the table next to me and the youngsters were having a marvellous time, genuinely enjoying the food, the music and the beautiful setting. On a fiercely hot day in La Axarquía, there are very few places to go that remain cool and comfortable - while still affording a truly spectacular view!
My lasting impression is of a finely crafted balance between all of these strengths - most especially, the expert pairings of food and wine. This takes rare talent... And necessitated a taxi back to my hotel in Canillas de Albaida, courtesy of Taxi Silvia. I left with a couple of cases of wine - and a promise to return in the Spring. Highly recommended!

€143 for lunch (2adults, 2 children) - reconsider and read on before booking.
We were looking forward to this, trying something different as we’ve been coming to this area for over 10 years.
The tour was short, there were no notes, no information to read and the tour guide was quietly spoken so couldn’t make out most of what she was saying.
There are only 4 wines to sample, generally mediocre and below par. The unfortified held its own and was decent.
After the wine tasting we were told our table was outside for lunch, only to find no such table existed, we were then told that we were to sit inside but had to wait for the table to be prepared. There are no shaded areas to wait apart from indoors (more on that later).
The food was nice, I admire the sourdough bread from a starter that was 10 years old. The mussel was good and the avocado starter had a pleasant taste.
There were a few issues, firstly, the wait time between courses was long and tedious, this was compounded by the heat due to there being no air-conditioning, just ceiling fans. The room was too hot and stuffy and the lack of shade to the building made this worse.
They were keen to provide water during the wine tasting but slapped a hefty charge on it for the lunch. If the room was air-conditioned this would have been bearable but don’t make it hot and charge people more for sitting in discomfort.
Whilst good effort was made for the children’s lunch, to have a 9 and 11 year old sit through 2.5 hours just for the lunch is not inclusive. I was struggling as an adult. This is not recommended for children or teenagers.
I advised the member of staff afterwards but received a long blank look with no verbal response.
Given the price of the tour and lunch,
and what we have experienced in the
rest of Andalusia, I had higher expectations.

Went with my husband and 19 year old daughter.
Drive up with a little scary as it’s very steep and single track at some places.. but totally worth it the views are amazing.
The tour was fantastic so much information and the tasting with the cheeses fabulous.
Kicking ourselves that we didn’t book lunch as it looked amazing.

Very nice welcome, nice visit and explanations how the vines are planted, the harvest of grapes and its manufacture of several kinds of wines. We tasted several wines and as accompaniments an assortment of cheeses and cold cuts. We also had a 5-course menu. Everything was delicious, very nice tasty dishes, the plates were very well presented. Everything he had on the plate was food. I advise you to go... you won't regret it at all. Thank you to your friendly team and the owner who cooks wonderfully.

We loved the tour and learned a lot about growing wine in these mountains. We had the five course meal with wine pairings. Each course was superb as well as the wine. Highly recommended!

We’ve been to many wine tastings, but this one stands out as truly exception. Every course they serve is a work of art and tastes amazing the wines are much better than we expected. Highly recommended.

We visited this beautiful bodega with the whole family (8 people). The tour was short and clear and the wine tasting was excellent. Then had a 5-course menu with matching wines. We thought it was a culinary highlight where the wines enhanced the dishes even more. Highly recommended.

Today we were again allowed to enjoy the 10 course lunch with wine among the grape vines in the mountains of Malaga. Surprisingly delicious fresh dishes created by owner Andre with delicious wines grown by his wife. Delicious combinations with a tasty piece of meat and fish. And so affordable.

We have a recommended wine pairing - a glass of wine with each course - and since we design the dish for the wine you can't get a better taste combination. This costs 10,50 € for the 3 course menu (3 glasses of wine) and 17€ for the 5 course menu (5 glasses of wine).

The best and most convenient way is driving or taking a taxi. The route is very simple and you can find us on googlemaps. If you need a taxi contact me - I can help you arrange this. The cost depends on the number of people and your exact location but shouldn't be more than 130€ for 5 people - return trip - and might be less

There is no standard bus to the Bodega. However, if you email your address for collection, we can obtain a quotation from local taxis and, if you are happy with the price, making a booking on your behalf.

Hello Tom,
it is possible to reduce the length of the taxi journey by getting a bus along the coast to Algarrobo Costa and then taking a taxi from there up to the bodega. The only problem then is co-ordinating.
We generally recommend taxis and they are about 90€ for the round trip. If you want us to arrange a taxi for us when you book, we need the address you will be collected at, the number of people and date. We then get you a quote and book the taxi if you are happy with it.
