Sign was out, car park was open, but nobody was home!!

I drove out to South Gippsland for a day at the galleries- there are several galleries in Fish Creek that are worth visiting! This was the last one I visited... and I had not been paying attention to the time during the day. A lady said as I entered, "you might have to be quick ... we are closing". I had NO idea who she was at the time so I thanked her and said I will briefly go through and return another day. ( The next visit might be a way off but at least with this one I know what I will be returning to because I was able to walk through for about 8 minutes :) ) I now know from looking through photos on trip adviser that the lady who spoke to me was Celia.
So what to expect with this gallery? Well it's just on the edge of town and it rises magnificently on a hill... so it will capture your eye. There is car parking to the rear where you enter. There is a lot of sculpture art that is made locally around the building. You enter into a beautiful room and it smells divine... it's an earthy wood scent that assails your senses. There is a cafe area and smaller items to look at in this area before you wander through to an incredible gallery of Celia's work.
Celia is a botanical illustrator who paints mostly banksias. Her work is exquisite. Her artwork would be quite at home in austere homes. Some of it is for sale, others are simply on display for you to enjoy.
I remember a stamp collection that was released by Australia post of banksias and it turns out that it was Celia's work.
This gallery is definitely worth a visit... and hopefully next time I allow more time to go through.

Celia is a living treasure and it was a real pleasure to talk to her and hear her stories. The gallery is amazing and her work incredible. The detail captured in her pictures is stunning. The frames - made by her son, Andrew - compliment the pictures really well.
Well worth a visit!

We visited on a wet Saturday, and spent a pleasant 2.5hrs chatting with the queen of banksias herself, Celia and her son Andrew. She was full of stories of her life and of each of the various art works. Very down to earth and easy to talk to. So much better to speak with the artist herself, than to just view the art. To purchase a souvenir was as little as $6, up to $1500 for a framed copy in a frame made of banksia by Andrew. Take the time to visit.

Pulled in for a coffee and were about to leave as it appeared closed, when the Gallery owner Andrew Rosser beckoned us in. I hadn't been aware of Celia Rosser's work, but her incredibly beautiful and detailed formal botanical illustrations of banksia trees are absolutely stunning. She joined us in the gallery and we talked for some time about the process of her work, how she started, and what she finds so beautiful about the trees. She has met Queen Elizabeth three times and I would guess that the Queen remembers her! The original illustrations which are quite astonishing go for (if I remember correctly) about $1500, but I bought a beautiful large signed print for $120, and there were others much less expensive. We were on our way to Wilsons Prom and this was a totally unexpected 45 minute delight. Also, the coffee was amazing!!

This is a beautiful gallery with stunning illustrations of banksias. Take the time to savor each art work as they are so detailed and balanced. If you are lucky you might have the privilege of the artist herself showing round and providing a fascinating background to each painting. A perfect place to escape the showers.

Visited here with my parents and most impressed with the landscaping and beautifully crafted gallery space. We were delighted to meet Celia herself and her son Andrew who built the gallery with local timber and hand crafted banksia. The space showcases her impressive contribution to documenting every genus of banksia. The originals are at Monash University. There is a small cafe for coffee and cake in a sunny space surrounded by gift options- Celia’s prints and cards, jewellery and wood crafts.

This gallery is dedicated to the work of world renowned botanical artist Celia Rosser who in her working career painted all species of Banksia. Many of the 77 paintings are available as framed prints, along with cards and smaller drawings. There is coffee and cake available. Opening times 10 to 4 Fri, Sat,Sun. Opening times may vary during winter. We checked opening times by calling gallery on 0455 777 334. Although getting on in years Celia is available to talk to visitors most days.
A must see for anyone interested in botanical art.

Very charming art works. There's a café which looked nice, though we didn't use it. Good selection of local art and craft for sale.
