I wandered in unawares, thinking this to simply be a book shop. Very quickly I became aware all the books were authored by the same writer! In no time at all I was enamoured with the bright artwork and it’s obvious resemblance to the mountains and sea of this serenely picturesque region. As I meandered about, my childhood

Growing up, Alison Lester was a favourite author and I’ve many fond memories of reading her books at school. Having learned about her gallery from the TV show ‘Back Roads’ in the Fish Creek episode, I’ve been eager to visit the gallery for months. I’ve also actually still got two of her novels so I wanted to get them autographed.
The gallery itself is primarily a bookstore which also sells merchandise with Alison Lester’s artwork. Books were available in hardback and/or paperback and reasonably priced. I bought copies of ‘On the Way Home’ and ‘My Farm’ plus some gifts and have arranged to have them autographed by Alison Lester.
On some days, often weekends, Alison Lester herself is in the actual gallery. If she’s not, however, one can either buy or bring in the books (as in my case with the novels) and place orders for Alison Lester to autograph them. Once available, they can either be collected or delivered via post.
The staff member who served me, Kim, was lovely and was very thorough in going through my order to check for any special instructions re - autographs.
The gallery is also something of a museum for her actual works and features original drafts and watercolour prints of illustrations from her works. As someone who really enjoyed reading ‘My Farm’ I particularly enjoyed seeing the original illustrations for this text.

Nice little shop with plenty of Alison Lester art and books for sale. Kids enjoyed having a poke around as well. She's a fantastic author and artist

I honestly have NO idea who Alison is! But what I can tell you is that I enjoyed my foray into this gallery. I really had no idea what to expect... so with no expectations I could just enjoy what was there. Initially what struck me was the unusual art on the walls... almost cartoon like...children's-book-cartoon-like! And then I noticed the greeting cards... I realised that Alison had to be an author and clearly the more I looked, she also had to be an illustrator.
Not having had young children around me that would have perhaps led me to a world of discovery into her books... I simply enjoyed the artwork in the store. So while I only left with whimsical impressions and some beautiful greeting cards... I would still recommend this to anyone with a child-like enjoyment of art and literature... OR well ... children!

Great selection of books and friendly comfortable place to read Alison Lester stories to your grandchildren.Plus books purchased can be signed by the Author.

Great place to visit to see her art works and enjoy a touch of the creative. Her story is great. Loved all her children's books illustrations.

Lovely book shop,full of all of Alison Lesters wonderful childrens books.
