Visited the Mint whilst in Cardiff, a place I had on my "to do" list. Wasn't disappointed. Knowledgeable helpful staff. Found the whole "experience" interesting and the magnitude of the work surprising. Would recommend

Guided tour of the "shop floor" fine and very informative about the whole process from metal(s) to finished coin. Obviously security and safety important, pity the machines were not operational when we visited on a Monday afternoon at 1pm. Highlight to have option to 'strike' your own 50p coin (£7-50 extra) well worth it. The exhibition showing history etc is very well presented, opportunity to touch a 1K gold bar! Our ticket covered lunch, could spend £25 in cafe/restaurant. Great value for money with huge portions. Only difficulty was spotting signage for car park as "Royal Mint" in very small letters, though sign very large! Just to add a huge thank you to the shop staff for taking a photo of us in front the boxes full of coins. Car park itself is very large.

Cerys was a great tour guide yet again and friends who came along commented in how informative the tour was and the little personal touches re coin collection made it even more interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and strike your own -as usual. Thankyou Tony

Really interesting, well presented tour.
Our tour group had a number of foreign visitors, who didn't all speak English as a first language - this can be very difficult, but the tour guide handled it well, allowing them some time to translate, but not to slow the overall tour down excessively.
Good introduction, followed by an excellent tour of the actual shop floor. After the tour you can spend as long as you like in the extensive exhibition - it's a pity many people ignored this, as we felt it was outstanding.
If you visit on a weekday, you need to check you will actually be allowed on the shop floor; as if production is going on, this may not ne the case.
(Cafe food was pretty average, in spite of friendly, helpful cafe staff).

The day was very informative and interesting, caris was a lovely guide very knowledgeable, we then had lunch in the cafe and the meal was very enjoyable with plenty if choice, the staff all day were very pleasant

The tour was excellent but even better was the cafe.Superb food, reasonably priced and friendly, helpful and welcoming staff.If I lived nearby I would eat here every day.

Such a great experience! Cerys is a wonderful tour guide. We loved striking our own 50p coin and lunch in the cafe was amazing. The asparagus and stilton pies were lovely. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Diolch! X

I went as part of a care home group.
Prior to the visit I telephoned with some quieries; a Lady took my number and returned the call answering all my quieries.
She made my booking and took payment. There was an issue with the booking, this was corrected on the day with no issues.
We had use of wheel chairs without any added cost.
The tour guide was amazing, he was loud enough for everyone to hear and answered all questions.
Thank you to all the staff hopefully we will see you again soon

How fast paced is the tour? Looking to take a family member who needs to go walk slowly and not be rushed long distances.

It's not a huge place, and not more than about 50m between each point of interest. The tour is so interesting, you won't be rushed round, go and enjoy it you won't be disappointed

There are two tours a general admission where yes its more general and children friendly. However there is a VIP tour which I did which was very adult centric and absolutely good value and educational too

Hello, from what I remember it cost about £6.50 to strike your own coin, but you have no control over which 50p piece is struck. The staff member does this for you.

Can you pop in for the Great British 10p coin swap without doing the tour, or do you have to do the tour and get the opportunity to swap afterwards?
Visiting 7th-9th June 2019.

No you don't have to do the tour. But if you are do the coin swap before the tour. We did the coin swap first because when we came out unfortunately there were long queues and they had run out of certain coins.

Hello,
The nearest train station is Pontyclun, however that is a least a 40 minute walk. It is advisable to book a taxi from the station to the Experience. There are many local taxi companies which can be found online.
