An excellent place for our son and daughter's wedding reception and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff attentiveness and can-do attitude, from start to finish. What a marvellous setting, by the Thames and the little island by the old watermill was also made available to us. We could not have enjoyed a better wedding day.

I had been very cunning, and had monitored the weather in the Esher area (for Tuesday), up to midnight, on the previous day...no sun! 👎 So, weighing up Mapledurham or Hayling Island....the better weather was....,,Mapledurham 👍
I awaited a colleague’s arrival to Esher, and off we went.....
This House and village is a true delight - so very peaceful, and as one drives through the village, if one should encounter the locals, they all smile and say a genuine ‘hello.’ Nice.
To view the front of Mapledurham House, simply veer ‘left’ at the very start of the village (postbox in wall), at this ‘junction.’
We both went for a quick run, down this lane, in the direction of the front of Mapledurham House. After feeling that we’d both, possibly, cough up various internal body organs, we quit the run - this was ‘no time to die’, I told my dear colleague.
The House’s Church was open, so we perused the interior. Small and quaint, with lovely stained glass windows. Very lovely.
The Sun reigned over Mapledurham for the rest of the afternoon....and it was genuinely glorious.
Magnificent House, Church and Village!

Having caught a repeat of a showing of The Eagle has Landed, on telly, back in April, it had renewed my interest in the film. Excellent cast, good story, with some very fine lines of dialogue, hither and thither, within the script.
Couple this, with the fact I like tranquil, bucolic, pretty villages, led myself and two work colleagues to come here for a lengthy day out.
Just before you arrive in the village, at the top of the small hill, and on the RHS, sitting alone, is the cottage (from the film), in which the female villain, Joanna Grey, resides.
Perfect 33 degrees sunny weather, was complimented by a continuous strong breeze, which prevented the heat from becoming too much.
The Church, at the rear of the House is a delight and has been well maintained. Gardens are pleasant with plenty of benches.
Had a delightful hour long chat with a gentleman called Alan and lady called Brenda - both elderly long-standing residents of the village who were tending to the Church gardens. Both delightful people, who told us much about the village, surrounding areas, and the location filming, back in 1976.
The churchyard itself is incredibly peaceful, as there is no through traffic, due to the fact, you’re at the very end, nearest to the river, and frankly, if one wants an afternoon of complete peace, in a very pretty area, then this is perfect.
One can view the rear of the House from the churchyard itself, and later we took a walk on the bridal path/road, which is on the LHS as you enter the village itself.
This was a cracking day, overall - beautiful weather, and tranquility.
N.B - if one chooses to view the film, having never seen it before, then I recommend, solely, the Extended Version - as it is far superior.

Conseguimos ver o moinho somente da outra margen do rio. Embora houvesse uma ponte, era proibido atravessá-la. Descemos na estação de trem Reading e lá ninguém soube explicar onde ficava tão pouco como chegar. Tivemos de nos virar e acabamos pegando um ônibus que nos deixou do outro lado do rio. Foi uma pena!!!!

Old house with history near by st Margaret church, could not visit as well as canel site as this is private, the Church was historic and heard choir practices, nice people around,

What a lovely old place to visit. We were given a very informative talk by the Miller and shown a very unusual church in the grounds but I won't spoil the story. There is an amazing working watermill which generates more electricity than they need. The excess goes to the National Grid and forms income for the upkeep of the mill and the beautiful old manor house. We then had a first class delicious cream tea with homemade scones made with flour from the mill by the Millers wife. I think everyone in the group we went with would thoroughly recommend the boat trip and visit to the mill.

this house is set in a beautiful setting by the river thames .we went for a food festival and the house was closed and in fact it always seems to be so you must check first before going. the food festival was great though.

Went here today as I have been interested for some time. Arrived to be told via intercom that nothing was open! I realise that the house is being renovated but was led to believe that the grounds, waterwheel & gift shop were open. I my be going blind but nothing on the web site gave any indication of this. The only thing that justified spending our time & money getting here was the Pack Saddle pub just down the road.

Our group of 70 took an afternoon river cruise from Caversham and visited Mapledurham Watermill and Church. We were greeted by the Miller, Corey and his wife Jane. We had a tour of the church, working mill and Archimedes screw led by Corey who gave us an interesting and amusing insight into the history and operation of the estate, church and its mill. Jane provided a superb afternoon tea with fresh scones baked using flour from the mill. Quite a number of us purchased flour to make our own bread and scones. Thames Cruises provided a great service. Definitely would recommend this package to any groups looking to organise a special trip out on the Thames. Mapledurham House is currently closed for public visits but it provides a great backcloth to the visit and should not deter visitors from visiting this beautiful spot.

Are the shells in the gable significant?
