I unfortunately only saw the windmill from outside, but it's pencilled in for a future visit. It's great to think that volunteers are making this slice of history dating back to 1808 available to everybody.

You can find this windmill very close to Seaburn metro station. It feels as if it’s sat in the middle of a housing estate. Walk up the hill from the shops and enjoy this piece of history.

Went to the open day yesterday (1st Feb), A lovely well informed tour. Windmill built 1808 and recently refurbished. It is a lot bigger inside than you think . You visit 5 floors and learn the history of the mill. Excellent views from the top. It was great to see the sails turning again.The steps between floors are ladder like steps. A family with 2 young children coped well with the steps. Keep an eye on their facebook page for more opening times. The tea room which are very nice is open 10am to 2pm Wednesday to Saturday

Visited with our 2.5 year old Grandson. He has a fascination with windmills, so this visit was very special for him. A very nice event held and everyone enjoyed the visit. We will return soon and hopefully have a full tour.

After living in Fulwell for over 30 years and never visiting we thought we would take a visit following all the recent renovation work. We visited the cafe first, prices are excellent and a good selection. We both opted for soup and a sandwich, soup was leek and potato and sandwich tuna, £4 which is a brilliant price and that was with a choice of hot drinks. Soup was lovely and sandwich was delicious. The guy serving us was really friendly and nothing was a problem, there wasn't many people in which was a shame as it's a really nice cafe, clean and presentable. Would love to try the afternoon tea. After we finished our lunch we opted to take a tour around the windmill, we went just the 2 of us which we preferred, the lady who took the tour was local and knowlegdable and clearly had a passion for the history of the mill. Not suitable for those less able due to the amount of steep ladders and stairs. Fantastic views from the first level right out over Fuwell and the SR6 area and way beyond so make sure you pick a nice day to make the most of it. Good to hear the history and background of something so local and it's free too which is very rare. If you can't manage the mill give the cafe a visit. Great little local gem.

myself and my daughter visited Fulwell Mill. We started with lunch in the lovely little cafe, soup a sandwich and a pot of tea, for £4 and lovely. cream scone and tea only £3.50 so very reasonable. toilet was very clean and ideal for disabled. The gentleman that served our food was very pleasant, helpful and friendly. We Then went to do the tour of the mill, well worth doing. free entrance which is rare theses days. The lady who took us round was very knowledgeable, very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Very steep steps up through the floors of the mill, but take your time and see the fantastic views from the windows. plenty of car parking places.

The refurbishment is completed. At least this phase of the work is done and everything is tidy and safe. We visited with 4 generations - 2 to 85. Two year old was quite safe as the stairs were well gated and machinery fenced in. 85 year old managed the 4 flights of stairs, having a breather at each floor. Obviously not for everyone.
Guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Most of the equipment is original. The mill does work, but is rarely operational.
Tearoom does a nice cup of tea. Homemade cakes and sandwiches available.
Not a place to make a special detour for, but worth a visit if you are in the area.
Got a bit more time? Combine it with a visit to the local nature reserve at Fulwell Quarry.

We turned up to the Mill on a Wednesday at around 11:30, unsure of what to expect. First of all, despite the other reviews and Q&A, the car park is convenient, and adequately sized. Apparently, the mill volunteers often are in on Wednesdays, and they’re still working on refurbishing the windmill itself. However, the door to the mill was open, and we wandered in, to find several descriptive plaques inside about the history and mechanics of the mill. There are several floors to the mill (accessible by steep ladder-like stairs), each displaying a different section of the inner works of the mill. As we made our way up, we met several of the volunteers, who were more than happy to take time to point out various features and facts. Having said all this, we were told the mill is not “officially” open yet for tours, but folks can come have a look inside when available. There is also of course a very nice tearoom, staffed by extremely friendly and courteous people, which serves a great cuppa, nice selection of treats, and some lunch options as well. There is a book share shelf in the tearoom, so bring along a book or two to leave, and browse for a book to take and read! One last thing... inside the tearoom, there are some mill gift shop items. Some at a set price, some available for any donation. There is also a book for sale (£10) by a local author, “The Valley”, which takes place in the 1800s in the area of the mill, and looks like a fantastic read. I’m excited to begin my copy!

Really interesting professionally rebuilt and a nice cup of coffee. adequate parking and easy to find on Newcastle Road A184.

We went as a party of 6. We had coffee and teas with freshly baked fruit scones. My grandson had a fruit shoot. It was very clean and tidy and the lady serving was very friendly. We will definitely visit again.

Just picked up question. Yes, there is parking but it is very limited and depending which direction you are driving from quite difficult to drive in. It’s very near traffic lights and the turn in is quick on a dual carriageway. It’s sign posted from direction driving into Sunderland direction. It’s the lane turning right and you need to double back.
