Telgte is a pleasant town for a stroll and a little something at one of the cafes, and this chapel is well worth a stop. Built at the end of the Thirty Years' War in the 1600s, the main feature is a venerated 14th century wooden statue of the sorrowful Mary holding Jesus, which has attracted pilgrims from across Europe. The image is said to provide solace from pain and illness. Display cases in the round chapel show various images of arms, hands, and legs, messages of thanks. The chapel is a real gem in the area, an intimate place of beauty, mystery, and history.

We were delighted to stumble upon this place while wandering around the town.
