These tempkes Awantiweshar were built centuries ago by Pandavs. The stones used to built these are stronger than any other structure u will find today. These temples show the forgotten history of Kashmir

Avanti Shovra Temple or Avantisvara temple was built by King Avanti Varman during his reign 855 - 883 AD. This is a massive temple and much bigger than Avantiswami dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The temple is situated in a courtyard enclosed by a huge stone wall of which is decorated beautifully. The gateway is in the middle of this wall and it is divided into two chambers. Its walls are not decorated with sculptures as Avantiswami.

This could be a very good attraction for the tourists but unfortunately, most of the tourists are not aware of the temple. This temple is situated on the bank of river Jhelum, beautiful hills are there in the backdrop and ruins of the temple altogether will usher you to a different world.

On the way from Pahalgam to Srinagar, the temple ruins stand serene within the city. Ample parking for vehicles is available. The guides explain the structure and history of the temple with minute details. Its an ASI protected site and thus preserved in better shape.

The temple fell on our way from Gulmarg to Pahalgam. This is ruins of a once magnificent temple build in Indo-Greek style. It is somewhat like the Martand Sun Temple in Anantnag but much smaller. If you see this, your appetite for the Martand temple is whetted!

The ruins of the temples showcase our rich history & the nature's way to treat human buildings. On the way from Srinagar to Pahalgam this place catches an eye straight. Well maintained and super clean surroundings make this worth a visit only if you are fond of ruins.

The temple was buried approx. 30 feet deep in earth. Temples have been built in Orriya style and by King Awantivarman. There are two similar temples, one dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the other to Lord Shiva. The Vishnu temple had a Silver idol which was taken away by the Britishers and another stone idol which can now be seen at the Gadadhar Temple in old Secretariat at Srinagar.
King Awantivarman was of Kashyap clan, from where Kashmir takes its name.
A must visit for all.
