This place is magical and the calming effect it has on our body and mind is unique.
Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi himself is still there in this cave was the feeling I received as soon as I reached.
The divine experience and vibrations of the surroundings have left me spellbound cant wait to be there again.

Contrary to some reviews I a grandma nearing 70 found it quite a doable feat. The upward climb steep in places did make me loose my breath but just took a minute or two to catch my breath and was ok. Sitting in the cave was an amazing experience. Went into a meditative state very fast. The downward track was a bit more tough dad the steps were bigger. Overall a worthwhile trip. Would recommend everybody to do it

This is the place where Sri Ramana did a lot of meditation during his prime years . Very very powerful place and quite silent

For me this was a long and hard hike. Take water. It is a long trek uphill. Take enough water. If you are in Ramana Asharam, come out , wear your shoes and take the path that reads ‘private’ . It takes you to the start of the trek. Climb at a steady pace. People keep telling you it’s about 1.4 km, I think it is more. It took me over an hour to reach the cave. I found a vendor who was selling Lime juice. I did not carry any money and he was kind enough to offer me
For free. I requested another hiker to pay 🙏.
At the top of the hike one can see the entire City. A few more steps and one reaches the Skanda Ashram where Bhagawan’s mother was given mokasha by Bhagawan. After spending some quiet time there, the trek goes downhill. VERY STEEP downhill climb. The steps are HIGH. Do not carry anything in your hands as you need to maintain balance. Keep walking down carefully and there comes the cave in the right. I left my footwear near the entrance and silentlymtiptoes inside. A lot of devotees will be found sitting inside the cave and outside in deep meditation. You can feel Bhagawan’s presence.
You have the option of going back the way you came (back to the ashram) . I preferred to go downhill on the same trek and came out of a narrow lane that had homes on both sides. This brings you tk the Main Street and Intoom am auto to the ashram. Since I had no money, I made the driver wait till I went to the taxi and got the money.
Good exercise for the mind and the body.

Whether you are spiritual or not, a visit to this place when you are in Thiruvannamalai is a must. This place gives you a view of one of the majestic temples in India. The view is breathtaking and must be experienced and not explained. There are two ways to reach this cave, one from a path behind the main temple other from behind the Ramanashree Ashram. I would suggest that one can go up from behind the Ashram and descend towards the temple as it much steeper.

You have two routes to reach this treasure... one by steps from the town near the temple itself or by trekking from the back side of Ramanashram via the skandashram.
The cave is small in height you can only sit and meditate and even standing for a moment is not possible.
Shri Ramanar spent his first 17 years or so after coming to Thiruvannamali.
The place is very peaceful and if you want you can meditate here.

Hi,
We are thinking to visit thiruvannamali during august. Can anyone tell how long is the climb to cave from town?
Can people of age 50yrs take the climb?
What will be the weather during august?

The climb takes about 30 minutes, depends on your pace and how many stops you make for rest. If it is hot, it's a must to make stops. Take your water with you, and put on comfortable shoes, the path is very rocky. And yes, people of over 50 can do it without problem. My friend is 77, and she climbed twice there!
Hi. Is it possible to meditate here for 2-3 days? I've heard the energies are really great here. I'm planning on doing a sadhana.

Hi,
I believe they close the place at around 4:00 pm. You can go there early in the morning and stay there till 4:00 pm, but i doubt they'd allow you to stay inside the cave beyond 4:00 pm.
