Wonderful short hike from Flåm to the Brekkefossen waterfall, overlooking Flåm and the fjord. Not a difficult hike per se, but lots steps to the top so would recommend appropriate shoes.

Utterly gorgeous. Had a great meal, a walk up to Brekkefossen and spent the night in the hostel. We got really lucky with the weather, but also that no cruise ships were in so it was quite peaceful. I suspect not so peaceful when they are. Highly recommended.

Worth the hard climb up the 150ish large steps! Lovely small area at the top and great views around Flam. Nice walks further down the road when you come down.

We walked from the ship 🚢 on a beautiful June day. Only to the base of the waterfall. There is a track up there and very sturdy boots are needed

About 1 hour walk from Flam. The path is quite steep, but the view from the top is priceless, as well as impressive to be able to observe a waterfall up close!

The walk to the trail up to the waterfall from Flam is flat and nice and easy, the 160m up, 600m distance stairs to get to the waterfall are not so easy. The stairs are all safe, but the steps themselves are quiet tall. The viewing area at the waterfall, made for a lovely picnic stop, but we had the advantage it was only the two of us there.

We visited Flam on an MSC Cruise and decided to undertake the walk to Brekkefossen waterfall ourselves. It can be a strenuous walk up there and I did have to stop every few steps to catch my breath (I'm a cyclist not a walker!) but after about 30 minutes from the start of our ascent up the well laid out pathway, we reached the mesmerising sight of the falls and the unbelievable view across Flam to our tiny ship in the port. Every bit of scenery has been thrown at this place; it really is stunning. If you don't mind a bit of an effort, it is an absolute must see. And on the way back down you can look smugly at the ascending walkers and tell them they don't have far to go! :)

Long walk, a lot of steps to go up but it's worth it for the view.
We docked with a cruise liner and left for a walk along the road and followed the signs, we got to the beginning of the trail and started our way up.

A great picnic spot and is about a two hour round walking trip at an easy pace. Take the road out of Flam which follows the railway line and then turn right when you can see the waterfall on that side; path clearly marked from the bottom. It’s then a sharp uphill walk for about 15 minutes, which then brings you out with a great view of the waterfall and also the valley and fjord beyond. Really lovely spot and worth doing if tat shops in Flam don’t hold your attention for long.

This is a great hike while in Flam! Steep but manageable and fun to see all the goats and sheep while heading up to the falls. The falls were beautiful and worth every step!!!

Took us 2:15 to walk from the port, up to the waterfall with a 45min stop at the top and walk back down.
20 mins each way to the start of the trail from Flam.
20-40 walking up depending on fitness and confidence.

Having done the Norway in a Nutshell tour a few years ago we are looking for something less expensively we can do while docked in Flam for a day. We are pretty good at walking, even on steep inclines. Any recommendations, please?

Brekkefossen is easy to get toto... The head of the trail is less than 30 minutes from the train and the walk is very scenic. You walk along a river, past cows, and see grass roof tops. However the hoke to the top is a bit rough but I'm completely out of shape. We didn't have a lot of time, we only stayed at the top for about 15 minutes but there are plenty of grassy areas. Why not run in the grocery before your hike and pack a small picnic and really enjoy your view when you get to the top? This hike was really one of the many highlights of our trip!

In Norway it should be quite light at that time. We found the best views were when the skies clear and the sun was out so I'd check the forecast. As you can see from my review the way was blocked off when we went there at the beginning of May, so I would check that the construction work has finished before you go.

Is there a taxi that will do a scenic tour of the local villages and waterfalls for 4 people? If so what is the cost?

I agree you can pretty much walk all of flam village. We really enjoyed the little train that takes you round all the village sites on a quick tour from the pier past the waterfall, church and school. It is called rallartoget and you can find it on trip advisor. The flam railway is the best attraction though, but it does get booked up fast.
