We took two overseas visitors to Windspan last weekend. It was cold and damp. We had dressed knowing we’d be outdoors but were taken aback with delight when staff gave out blankets to wrap around ourselves to keep extra warm. The staff combine a very genuine Aotearoa manner with obvious passion and deep knowledge - this is not a tired, glib, ‘touristy’ place. And prices are very good for what you get. Then there’s the birds- wow!!!! Loved seeing them right up close, and having one hop onto one of the visitor’s arms. Whether birds of prey are your thing or not you won’t regret a visit. Excellent.

What an awesome experiance!Experiancing the flight show was sensational.The staff were very informative about the birds,and being able to witness the birds up close was incredible. As a charitible trust they are doing an exceptional job with their rescue, rehabilitation+ breeding.Educating the public is a key factor to the ensuring these birds survive well into the future.I was fortunate to have the opportunity to let a karearea perch on my arm.So stoked!! Recommend a visit to all,especially if you have a soft spot for birds of prey.

Wingspan is a National Treasure and should be a must visit for all Kiwis and NZ visitors. The birds are fabulous, the staff exceptional and the support needed!

It was an incredible experience to be able to see the talented Karearea up close diving for bait. I was also lucky enough to be chosen for the smaller group who were given the opportunity to have a ruru sit on their arm, she was such a charistmatic beautiful little creature, I would have happily spent longer admiring her. The staff at Wingspan were all lovely and informative, it was great to hear them speak about the different birds they care for with such passion. It was an absolute scorcher of a day when I went so my one recommendation would be that anyone attending prepare to get covered up as there isn't much shelter around.

Great experience. Learned a lot about NZs native falcon experiences and got to see them show off their 'hunting skills' with a lure. The audience even got an opportunity for a member in each group to have one of the Falcons perch on their arms. The kids then got to experience the NZ native owl - the morpork and also got to have a go holding it on their arm.
This place has rescued and rehabilitated loads of birds over the decades and is doing an excellent job on a shoe string budget.

Prepare children for long explanations and that they may not be chosen to hold a bird. There were a number of very disapppointed young children in the group.

My partner and I went to the show, during our holiday to New Zealand it was such a fun experience, we got to learn so much about the New Zealand Falcon “kārearea” and to see a few of them in action so close was amazing. We will definitely go back once the centre is completed. We've already reccomended this to friends and family.

It was a great experience overall. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and were experts at taking care of the birds. The show was excellent and the birds were very well looked after.

Incredible experience! We got to see two New Zealand falcons fly and view them up close, as well as a gorgeous barn owl (they said the birds vary from demonstration to demonstration). We learned so much about the birds. We could not be more impressed by Wingspan’s dedication to conserving these incredible creatures and educating the public. An absolute must-do!

Is there much to see other than the flight show? If so, how much earlier than 1:30PM for the flight show would be recommended?

There is a souvineer shop that you can have a look around and a small educational museum there as well. You can have a look through the aviary before the show that has falcons,hawks and moreporks in their own enclosures. To view all I would reccomend around 45 mins or so.
