Baijnath (Vaidyanath) temple at Bainath near Palampur (HP) has the rare sight of a standing Nandi in addition to the usual sitting Nandi. People could be seen whispering their wishes in the ears of the standing Nandi.
The temple is said to have been got constructed in1204 by two merchants.
Legend has it that when, pleased by Ravan's tapasya, Mahadev granted him his wish of taking him to Lanka but in the form of a Shivling and with the rider that Ravan had to carry it without putting it down on the way, Brahma and Vishnu, worried that all the powers of Mahadev will go to Lanka, tricked Ravan into putting it down at this spot. The Shivling could not be moved from there and got installed as a Jyotirling.
As such, Ravan too is revered there and neither is Ravan effigy burnt nor Vijaydashami celebrated in Baijnath.

An excellent Shiva temple. The entire temple complex is kept very clean and lush green gardens.
We were at temple around the time Aarati was to be done. The priests advised us to witness the aarati and have darshan.
After the aarati and puja, the priests did not demand any offerings.
The temple is serene, full of energy. Temples architecture is very beautiful.
If visiting Palampur area, must visit

8th century Nagara style temple built by two local merchants named Ahuka and Manyuka..
A very holy and sacred shrine of Lord Shiva. Overall well managed. Behind the temple is a rivulet and you can go down the stairs, right to the rivulet.
This place also has some really great vibes. Something so surreal about this place with the Himalayas in the background it just adds to the beauty.
The intricate carvings on the walls and the pillars of the temple of the gods and goddesses from the Indian mythology is something you can keep watching and you won't get bored of.
Kheer Ganga on the back side of the temple is just so marvelous with the Ganga flowing from the Himalayas
There is also a small market place in the approach road to the temple. A holy and ancient shrine , all devotees must visit.

This Nagara style Hindu temple was built in 1204 A.D. by two local merchants named Ahuka and Manyuka. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Vaidyanath. Numerous idols are carved on the walls of the temple.

Shiv temple baijnath is build in Nagra style of architecture by Ahunk& Maynk in 12A.D devoted to lord Shiva, interesting thing to notice about the town Baijnath is there is no shop of Gold & blacksmith plus no celebration on the occasion of dhushera due to Ravan who was a true devotee of lord shiva & so the rescpect is offered ironically.

I have been visiting this temple since the year 2017 when i came as a tourist up until now that i am a resident in Bir. This place is magical. Everytime i go there i spot something new or see something new which I hadn't noticed in my previous visits.
This place also has some really great vibes. Something so surreal about this place with the Himalayas in the background it just adds to the beauty.
Also this place carries a great mythical story behind it as per indian mythology and how the temple came into existence 800 years back. You can google it for your understanding.

Kheer Ganga on the back side of the temple is just so marvelous with the Ganga flowing from the Himalayas amd you see all of it with huge stones and rocks in the river, sometimes the clouds covering the Himalayas, the sound of the river gushing that you can hear on top when it's quite. Afternoon is a good time to visit.
The close the gate to the Kheer Ganga at 6pm usually but the temple is open till 9pm .
I also always recommend my guest to visit this place or i take them too many a times if I'm free.
It is only 45 mins by bus from Bir Road by bus and 20-25 mins from Bir if you hire a taxi.

How can I visit to Baijnath temple from Patna
AKTHAKUR
印度孟买136 条分享
let me clarify first that baidyanath shiva temple is in deoghar, jharkhand, patna to baidyanath takes 6hrs by road and 5.30 hrs by train.there are about 35 to 40 trains from patna
baijnath shiva temple is in himachal pradesh.there are no direct trains from patna to baijnath.you can take train from patna to pathankot or amritsar and then take a bus from amritsar.or pathankot to kangra.
it is a tedious journey so better would be to take a package tour of himachal covering maa chintpurni, maa naina devi, maa jwala ji,maa chamunda devi, maa baglamukhi, maa sheetla devi and baba baijnath all in himachal pradesh.
1.patna to pathankot by train and pathankot to kangra by bus or taxi-best option
2.patna to phagwara or anandpur sahib or jalandhar or ropar or ludhiana or amritsar by train and from there to kangra bu bus or taxi
