Very uneven steps.. basically they are not steps.. there are boulders. they have already adjusted and it was very difficult to climb because no perfect steps are there ...roots are very beautiful and the bridge is good

This is a living root bridge which takes very less effort to visit when compared to others. You can visit it on the way to Mawlynnong and would recommend to take the entry which is further from the main entry and goes through a rough patch. This ensures you have less steps to climb as the car takes you very close to the bridge. It is a single root bridge but worth a visit with and waterfall beneath it. There is a entry charge of ₹40 per person to the place.

A unique wonder of the world. A must see when visiting Mawlynnong. Due to over tourism the bridge tends to get crowded. The authorities should ensure no over commercialization and limit number of visitors.

Umkar root bridge, located close to Cherrapunji Holiday resort. Not a crowded bridge. Easy to reach . Steps are maintained to walk with kids.

Going down to these bridges is a little tired and sometimes the number of visitors is many, but this is one of the landmarks to visit in Meghalaya

Meghalaya's double-decker and single-decker root bridges are unique in the world and are a sight to behold. The bridges are tangles of massive thick roots, which have been intermingled to form a bridge that can hold several people at a time. Khasi people have been trained to grow these bridges across the raised banks of streams to form a solid bridge, made from roots.
Meghalaya's double-decker and single-decker root bridges are found in Cherrapunjee (Sohra) & Mawlynnong. Located around 56 kms from Shillong, Cherrapunjee is a must visit destination known for its trek to the single and double decker root bridges.
The trek from Cherrapunjee to the living root bridges is not for the faint hearted as it requires lot of stamina and grit to trek down to these natural wonders of the nature. But after reaching the destination , one feels worth trekking.

Although we would have loved to have done the double decker root bridge - we were short on both time and stamina so this one was a much easier one to get to - it took us a painless 10 minute walk down steps and a little more painful 15 minute walk up after ! We went in Feb - not really the best time to visit but this natural marvel was still breath taking with just a stream under verses a gushing river ! A visit to the neighbouring Mawlynnong Village known to be the cleanest in India can be done easily from here - if short of time skip the village but definitely do the bridge !!!

It requires strenuous physical activity to reach the bridge. But its well worth it. Eating and shopping options are ample.

It is not possible to do club root bridge trek with Dawki & Krangsuri, both due to distance between them and also the level of physical activity required at these places, specifically for Root Bridge Trek.
You have to choose between these 2; either Dawki with Krangsuri OR Root Bridge Trek.

Closest is through Nowhet village.
You can park your car and then walk down to the Living Root Bridges.
Even though it is shorter, it is slightly tiring due to stairs.
But one can take longer and walk at a slow pace to avoid fatigue.
How many stairs to reach root bridge near mawlunnong village ?

Hiiiiiiiii Honest me we did not count the steps, though, the journey down was utterly pleasant and comfortable. I am 60 years and my wife 55 but we did not feel any fatigue. Reached. Relaxed.Enjoyed. And came back. Safe. Comfortable and Relaxed. So if you want to enjoy just go and enjoy. Lovely is the way and place.
As I arthritis in knee and visiting in second week of November would I be able to get there? As I also would like to see cherry blossom festival

November gets a bit cold at Mawlynnong - depending on your level of discomfort, that is if you are able to climb a regular house' stairways then you will be able to do this as well. You may take as many rests as possible if feeling more discomfort. But it remains one of the most easily accessible root bridges in Meghalaya
Can root bridge visit in the month of august?

I have visited this place during the end of September and had good weather condition. August means it is monsoon and has chance for heavy raining. Since the path towards the root bridge is not systematically prepared, since the path may become slippery due to rain, there may be a bit of risky factor especially for the aged people. However, it is the will force that may help you to conquer the odds.

Where did you see root bridges exactly? I'll be going to Cherrapungee in December. The day's itinerary doesn't mention seeing any root bridges specifically. I'm a bit old for trekking but something of this nature acccessable by a short stroll from car would be great.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi Margaret,
First of all, there are two popular places in Mehgalaya where you can witness the Living Root Bridges. One is, as everyone has indicated on this forum, in Maylynnong and is the relatively easier one to access and the other is the Double Decker Living Roots Bridges which is in Cherrapunjee aka Sohra. Since you have said that you are visiting Cherrapunjee, I am assuming you are talking about visiting the Double Decker bridges since it is the nearer one. But it is not at all easy to trek because it involves walking down 3500 steps that are steep all the way and back. To make this journey it takes roughly 3 hours each side depending on your fitness. So, if you plan to rule this out then try and make it to the one in Mawlynnong as everyone has recommended, it's worth a visit and not that difficult to reach.
Hope you found this info useful.
Thanks, Kiran
Pranamita
