Park is unique in the diversity of ecosystems concentrated in a relatively small territory, as well as gorgeous sights – the coast of the Baltic Sea and its dunes, Lake Pape, Nida bog – places where many protected plant, animal and bird species, as well as wild horses, auroxen and European bison can be found.
The Lake Pape Area is an internationally significant breeding, migrating and wintering site for many birds, and is included in the list of Important Bird Areas in Europe. The region around Lake Pape is home to lynx (Lynx lynx), Eurasian Beaver (Castor fiber), Wild boar (Sus scrofa), and other large herbivores. Migrating dunes – rare on the Baltic coast – remain intact on some parts of the coastline.
In the Park's territory there are also several villages where up to this date rich Latvian cultural heritage can be found.

Tripadvisor and our travel guide told us this was a good stop on the way. We were advised to take the 'Natural Process Path' (own travel guide) and Tripadvisor warned for bad markings. At the start the map seemed clear enough, but the name 'Natural Process Path' was not on the sign (picture 1 and 2). Although the signs were not very many, on essential points they popped up (picture 3). The first kms were along a not very interesting road with (holiday?) houses and a camping. At certain points there were explanation signs (picture 4). At the turning point of this walk (in the dunes) we found the explanation sign near the watchtower and the one near the dunes, but than we got lost. We later found out that the explanation sign has a yellow field/arrow which point to the next sign. Unfortunately it didn't help us at the turning point. The nature after the road is nice and quiet, although it is also not more than that. We were not impressed.

By visiting, exploring and living couple of days in Pape Nature Park you can get off everyday' s routines and forget about everything! You will renew connection with wild nature and renew energy within yourself! We went around the lake by bicycles end of May for one day trip, but still can feel the energy that we got from of the ride in so different lanscapes and what we have seen!

Actually I would not recommend going there because nature park would be healthier without visitors. There are not many places left for all those creatures free of us - humans...

Long before my vacation, to go home, I had a plan to go to Pape Nature Park. main attraction for me was the wild mustangs. On the way to Lithuania, we tried to find the place, where they are, but instead found a nice place called Amber Wind, where a nice family told us, that we have passed it on the main highway. So we went there after the Lithuania visit. To get to the wild horses, we drove quite a while. But I would say it was worth it. Even rain did not scare us to climb out of the car and take some photos. There is also a trail of wild orchids, also good thing to look at. I wish there were more places like this one, where one can show his children the wild nature and its inhabitants. I am sure we'll go there again.

As we dont like din during our vacation and Lithuania has limited seaside, we decided to visit neighborhood and to drive few kilometers to Latvia, and we were blessed.
I dont know other such not commercialized seaside, beach. You can have absolute calm and quite rest. You dont have to listen your beach neighbors chit-chat....so you can even hear yourself, be with yourself and family;). Advantage: you can find apartments which are like 2 mins from the beach...so you spend all your time in healthy environment.
For those who like various activities and funparks and eating industry it is not suitable, because you will have to drive bad quality gravel road to reach such fun;)
Its like willage, countryside near sea.
I dont know other such not commercialized seaside, beach. You can have absolute calm and quite rest. A lot of interesting objects: 19th century fisherman`s houses, lighthouse. 20th century fish factory, Soviet fallout shelter. Nature objects: swamp, lake, wild horses. Also beach is beautiful.

Красивейшее место. Озеро, лес, чистый песчаный пляж, минимум людей. Огромное количество усадеб различной ценовой категории. Идеальное место для любителей спокойного отдыха и семей с маленькими детьми.

We visit it on Easter holiday so there were no people at all. However, nature is spectacular, there is place to observe birds. Also we saw an interesting reed preparation procedure - when people cutting them down and placing them as a stacks. That was really interesting. What is more, there is a wild horses pastures near by Pape. Great sea cost is just an another benefit for this place.

The nature is beautiful as the park is big. But there is a very bad road going there. It is ok if you have Jeep or 4x4.
It is a treasure of the nature because there is sea, wood, swamp, birds, animals etc. As the park is big we just drive and drive and got little lost. It took more the 1 hour and good driving skills to get out. But the nature is wonderful.
