We recently stayed in a cottage with our 13 year old totally blind Labrador as agreed with the management. A $100 cleaning fee was taken from our bond for "extra cleaning for property being covered in dog hair". Our dog sleeps most of the day, hardly leaves her mattress and does not climb on furniture. The only dog hair would have been on the floor and removed during normal cleaning of the floor, incuring no extra cost.
I had read in another review about this company making deductions from bond and having been a landlord with both holiday and permanent rentals dismissed the review as there are always 2 sides to a story. My mistake.
We would never stay again and will not recomend to anyone. In my opinion the term Luxury is well wide of the mark, far from luxury from whqt I saw.

If I could give a 0 star rating I would, but I can’t post a review (or should that be ‘warning’) without at least 1 star selected. We chartered the Capricorn from Luxury Afloat Houseboats with a group of 3 couples for a week in February 2023.
The only luxurious part of the experience was the charter fee itself. Do not be misled into thinking that you get the vessel that is depicted on the Luxury Afloat website. I don’t know how old those photos are, but sadly poor Capricorn no longer looks anything like those pictures. The vessel is in such bad condition that it’s unsafe. Here is a summary of our experience:
The initial safety briefing was perfunctory and was not a proper orientation to the operation of the vessel (we had to ASK where the life jackets were). The starboard engine failed to start initially. The staff got it going and when we enquired as to what the issue was were told it was ‘just a loose wire.’
The onboard generator had been removed, we were supplied with a portable generator and a 240v extension cable. Apart from the fact that we have subsequently learned that portable generators are not permitted, it was far too noisy to use at mooring and could only be used when underway.
Several gauges on the helm did not work including the fuel gauge, waste tank level, port side fresh water tank level and anchor windlass power switch.
One of the cabins had a missing door and we were told “it was broken on a previous charter and hasn’t been fixed yet.” My husband and I had to resort to hanging a sheet up for some privacy!
The starboard motor again failed to start on our first morning out. Repairs took all day which meant a second night on the same mooring as we couldn’t move. The starboard motor failed a third time on the final day of the charter, again requiring a lengthy delay whilst we waited for repairs.
Water started dripping down through an electrical conduit box directly onto the helm and continued for the whole week. It appeared the source of the water was the upper deck itself, the overhead awning was split and sagged significantly. The upper deck floors were spongy.
Deck safety railings were compromised, with 2 deck access gates not able to be latched/locked properly (we therefore ‘tied’ them closed with loose cables from the unfastened deck safety rail.
Nowhere to store or hang clothes in any of the cabins, we stored our suitcases on the upper bunks, which was fine until water leaked in from the ceiling of one of the cabins resulting in a suitcase full of wet clothes!
The area around the base of the toilet in the main bathroom was constantly pooling with water. The floor in the helm/lounge area was delaminating and buckling resulting in one of our party cutting their feet. There was minimal furniture in the lounge area, nothing like what is depicted on the website.
Fridge drawers were cracked with sharp edges exposed. Gas cooktop only had 3 burners working. Rust, corrosion and mould was everywhere.
We asked questions about some of the obvious issues at the start of hire, and we continued to raise our concerns throughout the week, as some of the issues only became apparent after a few days. We provided a formal written complaint afterwards. Our concerns were acknowledged in writing, we were informed in an email from them that they’d cancelled future hires of the vessel until the issues we had raised could be addressed! Not much help to us though.
However, they clearly expected that to be sufficient redress and our polite requests to discuss some form of compensation were treated dismissively. This culminated in one of the owners rudely hanging up on my husband when he attempted to have a conversation about it. In total, we were graciously given reimbursement of $51 to cover some ice and bait!
We'd been looking forward to this trip for a year. The location and spending time with our friends was wonderful and what made the trip, but that was no thanks to Luxury Afloat.

Fantastic experience on Holiday's Afloat 45 foot "Ripples" Houseboat.
Family of 7 Adults enjoyed a magnificent 5 nights cruising the Hawkesbury River in Dec 2021.
The houseboat was perfect for our needs. The houseboat was so easy to drive for 1st timers. Very comfortable onboard.
We hired two canoes , recommend you do this.
All the staff at Holidays Afloat were terrific to deal with.
The mighty Hawkesbury offer many small bays surrounded by the National Park> Beautiful setting.
Highly recommend a houseboat on the Hawkesbury and highly recommend Holidays Afloat to organise you get you on your way

We chartered the Capricorn from Luxury Afloat with a group of 6 (3 couples) for a long weekend and would like to share our experience so you get a better picture on what to expect.
In a nutshell, the only thing that was luxurious about the Capricorn was the charter fee. The boat itself was in an overall poor condition with rotten floor boards, corroded roof, half the instruments not working, worn/tired interior and greasy and/or dirty cutlery/crockery that makes your average student flat look like a presidential suite at the Hilton. We even lost a propeller from one of the two engines, which took over 6 hours to repair (mainly due to lack of staff and spare parts), so we missed out on almost an entire day of use. The beds are more suitable for lovesick teenagers that prefer to spoon all night long, rather that normal sized adults. Also factor in additional cost for a few chiro sessions afterwards as the mattresses are worse that what you may find in your standard backpackers bunk bed. The doors to the rooms generally can't be closed properly (including bathroom door), while (some of) the windows can't be easily opened. There are also no fly screens on any of the windows, so remember to bring a family sized bottle of insect repellent. The stereo system on the boat consisted of an old 90s car radio, so unless you bring the correct auxillary cable or your music collection on an USB stick you may want to consider bringing your own speaker system unless you prefer the sound of silence, boat engines or your own voice.
The best thing about the trip was experiencing nature on the Hawkesbury, waking up to the sound of cicadas and hanging out with your friends - all no thanks to Luxury Afloat.
We recon you are probably better off by renting a nice 3br house by the river and a paddle boat for half the price for a better experience.

We spent two weeks on the Donald Bradman, from luxury afloat, what an amazing experience. It was a privilege to cruise the Hawkesbury river, such amazing water ways. To visit the site of the draft for Australia’s constitution, refugee bay, and stand under the fresh waterfall our forefathers, where else could you experience that. To dine at Estuary Restaurant, blew our taste buds away, not too mention Jacob is an amazing mixologist of cocktails especially a true dry vodka martini, something very few people achieve. John, from Luxury Afloat bent over backwards, he even came out and took our overnight friend to shore, Nathan delivered to us a motor and kayak after a phone call, even through his young dog, was in surgery after a 4 wheel drive, broke his legs and pelvis. Luxury Afloat go way beyond service to clients they treat you like friends and family. So going back next year and the years too follow.

We found that the Bobbin Head area is really nice, especially for kayaking. $12 to enter, but well worth it

An easy drive from Sydney and worth a visit is Wisemen's Ferry. Little pocket places to stop by, pick up car ferry across the Hawksberry River. Calm, peaceful surrounds.

This magnificent river is the perfect place for water sports, fishing or just enjoying a coffee on the banks of the river. Stopped off on the way back from the Hunter Valley to enjoy the peace and quiet of Brooklyn. Cannot wait for the walker weather to arrive.

Excellent is the best way to describe the experience. This has to be one of the best ways to holiday and recommend it to anyone. You have kilometres of waterways to travel and you will not be disappointed. We went for 4 days and after all this covid19 crap it was the escape we needed. The boat was excellent and the staff were great. Special mention to Karen in the office who is terrific and a good laugh.

One of the greatest retreats away from it all, but still close enough to Sydney that it won't take days to get there. We started out at Colo River in Richmond and travelled to the Brooklyn, near to Hawkesbury River Bridge. Plenty of spots to stop for a picnic on the side river bank. Ample bird life, with the occasional fish jumping out of the water. We sighted a giant bass. Make sure you take plenty of sun cover gear like hats, long sleeve shirt and sunscreen. The glare and reflection from the water can give you some painful sunburn.
