Absolutely terrible place. I have never in my life had so much trouble even being able to put a beat on anything. Wanting two forms of ID including passport is absolutely ridiculous. Probably the government’s fault but still absolute terrible terrible won’t ever come here again. NSW police state

They have a membership loyalty program. Except it is compulsory. And they take your ID and personal info, and upload your photo to a facial recognition database. And then they monitor your gambling via the loyalty card and video facial recognition surveillance. They have staff that walk around supposedly to remind you to take a break so you don’t gamble too much. But they have your photo on their smartphones and they make a report about you if you haven’t had a break at 3 hours of play or if you’re playing alongside a friend “to correlate with the video footage later”. I am surprised it is legal but it’s sneaky and like a prison.

Once again checking in at the Darling at the Star.
The Concierge was excellent, a young man named Andrew, completed the Check-in Service with great speed.
He answered all questions and met all request.
This Check-in was probably the best I have experienced to date. I have stayed at over 30 Hotels this year alone, both overseas and in Australia.
Andrew was polite, friendly, professional and fast.

Dita was excellent, meeting us and showing us to our room and the room was perfect! In fact all the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a good time during our stay at The Star. Excellent hotel which I would happily recommend to all my family and friends.

What a joke of a Casino! Avoid … find yourself a local RSL instead with friendlier staff and a more pleasant and easy playing experience. To have to reveal all private information including DOB and Dl
Or Passport details and then another Q for a coerced membership card.. just for a fleeting flutter… it’s bloody laughable… and recommend dismissing and talking with your feet… How this process is legal remains to be questionable. Regardless of the time wasting… minimum half hour due to minimal disgruntled staff🤨 See Ya Star falling.

Casino review: As many have noted, it is a bit of a production to play poker or games here due to the lengthy membership policy.
My husband had signed up for poker; we have played poker all over the world, and he signed up in advance, and when we arrived, they said he had to have a membership card. Easy enough right? No, apparently not. He had already signed up for part of the membership card in advance, because we had read this would be a challenge, but online it would not let him receive a particular security number or something he needed, so we stood in another line, And they told us that we needed to sign up at the machines, and we told them we tried to…they finally let us stand in line so we could show them that the machines were faulty. I don’t know if it was because we had a passport from another country, but the person said, “yes, this happens all the time.“ Not very encouraging.
So, now, we finally get a membership, but I watched them deal with other people trying to navigate the machines and gosh… It must’ve been so frustrating for everybody because nobody was in a good mood. The customers… grumpy….The people dealing with the customers… grumpy... The membership desk…. Grumpy….Everybody was really quite grumpy. Not a great way to start a night.
So we received our membership card and went back up to where we had signed up to play poker and tried to give them money, and they told us that we must pay the money in chips. Now at this point, we are 30 minutes late for his poker game.
So we ask where we get chips, and the dude gave us directions, but that place was really quite crowded, so we finally ended up cashing in his hundreds for chips so that we could finally play poker.
And now, partway into the game, it doesn’t feel good. I feel like he’s lost a bit of his mojo, and he’s not sitting there and excited with the other players, because we had to go through this whole rigamarole with membership and chips. Really quite disappointing.
I may look like I’m smiling in these photos, but I’m really just exhausted… He did OK. He would’ve done much better had he been seated in time and not been so stressed out.

We went to the Star on Sunday night to have a bit of fun in the gaming room only to learn you can’t actually play any of the tables or even the pokies if you’re not a member. Impossible to just go and have some casual fun without signing up and getting bombarded with emails and promotions. Can you imaging going to a casino anywhere in Vegas where they won’t take your money without signing you up……unbelievable!!

The casino is run down and the service at the TAB in particular was non-existent. The Casino had plenty of machines to take your money but no staff to pay any winnings. Ultimately had to return to Victoria on the afternoon we were there with uncashed winning ticket. Also empty glasses and dirty plates everywhere. Very poor experience!

Poker room: understaffed, and a lot of poorly trained dealers. Expect to wait over 2-3 hours regularly to get a seat, if you can get one at all and Expensive rake,

The hotel itself was lovely, overpriced but had awesome views of the city
The sports bar was the real issue here, obviously Sydney isn’t a big AFL town but to miss the pre game entertainment & most of the national anthem because they had Foxtel on instead of channel 7, was a disgrace! The queues for drinks were long, they were short staffed & the men’s toilets flooded & had to be closed!! They then turned the end of the proceedings off for the rugby!!!
The whole experience was very disappointing to say the least!!!

Do electronic devices allowed to be used (presumably sensibly out of the hand) at poker tables or management still sticks to archaic pre smartphone (2002) practices and ban ALL devices as long as you are seated?

The Star's Craps table minimum bet is $10. With Centre action $5 minimum, Horn $20 minimum & Hard ways $10 minimum.
