We purchased a necklace while on a tour in Sydney. Unfortunately, the stone fell out recently and I was devastated. Fiona was so understanding and helped to replace the necklace. Wonderful, compassionate customer service. Never hesitate to purchase from this store!

I bought a pair of hoop silver opal earrings,they are beautiful! My only concern is that the backs are very flimsy for the price of the earrings I would have expected better quality, I should have looked closer. Otherwise I love the store and the informative movie.gate 1 visit

On a recent trip to Australia and New Zealand our tour director recommended that we go to Altmann and Cherny if we were interested in opal jewelry. This store is wonderful with a wide variety of jewelry of varying price and style. We selected a ring but wanted to compare at another recommended store, and received no pressure whatsoever about looking elsewhere. We knew right away that Altmann and Cherny offered a much better selection at comparable price. When we returned, after all the paperwork had been completed to purchase the piece, we were told that they would not sell us the piece as there was an undetectable flaw. They offered a refund, but then worked with us to find another comparable piece, which I absolutely love. We have never had an experience with a store of such wonderful repute and honesty, and immediately told our entire tour about this amazing event. Several went back to shop.
We highly recommend Altmann and Cherny for their outstanding collection of jewelry, their service and honesty, and the amazing experience they provided.

We had just arrived in Syndney and were headed to another opal store I had found online and we happened by Altmann & Cherny and decided to go in to compare opals and prices. I am SO glad we did! Fiona (owner) was so helpful. We knew nothing about opals and she patiently explained the different kinds of opals found in Australia. Fiona designs many if not all of the items in the shop. Everything is stunning. I tried on many earrings and pendants while Fiona patiently waited on me. I finally settled on earrings and a pendant but would have to come back the next day because we had to leave to get to the Sydney Bridge Climb on time. I came back the next day and ended up with a ring and the pendant. Everything is beautiful They have items for men, too including cufflinks. I didn't think I really liked opals but Australian opals are so beautiful. Thank you, Fiona for a great visit and spending so much time with us while we chose my perfect pendant and ring! Also, in the showroom is the largest opal found in Australia (maybe the world). I believe found by Fiona's grandfather or great-grandfather. Pretty cool:)

The service and product choice was amazing.. I selected a ring and they held it for a month while I continued my vacation to New Zealand & the Polynesian Islands. Upon my return to Sydney I picked up my ring and they walked me through the process of claiming my tax rebate by showing me how to access the government app and providing me with all the appropriate paper work to get through the airport. After I returned home I received the appraisal certificate as promised. It was a great experience and I just love my ring!

We visited the store and had a 7 minute presentation about goals and how they are mined. We then walked around the store and viewed their beautiful opal jewelry for sale. I ended up buying a beautiful ring that caught my eye.

While on holiday in Sydney, we stopped in at Altmann + Cherny just to “look” at the fine Opal jewelry. We were immediately greeted by Fiona who took the time to educate us and show us some pieces. And, never once did we feel that she was pushing us to make a purchase. We thanked her and said goodbye after about 30 minutes.
An hour later we returned to the shop but this time with intention of buying opal rings to take home as both fine adornments as well as reminders of our Australian holiday. The other clerks recognized us and said that Fiona would be right out to help us. This time we gave her our “out the door budget”. She brought out a selection of rings and suggested we pick out several that each of us liked as this would help her select additional pieces that might suit us. Unfortunately for us, they were all beautiful and unique but we could only purchase two and we did.
Our visit to Altmann + Cherny was such a very pleasant experience. In addition to raising our awareness about Australian Opals and buying two beautiful pieces, we met some wonderful people!
We very highly recommend this establishment! Although we are partial to Fiona, all of the sales personnel seems knowledgeable and wore smiles!
