Crossing Pyrmont Bridge is a fun thing to do if you’re exploring the Darling Harbour/Cockle Bay area.
The historic swing bridge was built in 1902 and is now heritage-listed. It’s a lovely, long, wide bridge and is pedestrian and bike only so you can safely stroll along.
From the middle, you get a lovely view over the harbour and marina, with Darling Harbour on one side and Cockle Bay & Barangaroo on the other side. You can also look down over the the historic ships out the front of the Maritime Museum. It’s a great spot to take photos and kids can run freely here.
Some historic features have still been retained. Halfway along, there’s the original control cabin, perched on stilts. From here, the bridge was manually opened and closed, allowing tall ships, steamers, yachts and the ferries pass underneath.
When it was built at the start of the 20th century, the bridge was considered a marvel of modern engineering. This was because it used an engine rather than using steam power or a winch.
For those with an interest in this art of thing, it’s one of the oldest surviving electrically operated swingspan bridges in the world.
NOTE: For those with mobility issues or pushchairs, there is easy access via a lift at the CBD end.

The Pyrmont Bridge, is a heritage-listed swing bridge.
It spans across from Cockle Bay on the CBD side to Pyrmont/Darling Harbour on the other side.
It was opened in 1902, and did once have traffic but now only a pedestrian bridge.
Great views from the bridge as on one side you can see darling harbour and Cockle Bay and Barangaroo on the other side.
Darling harbour is a mess though with the Harbourside Shopping Centre torn down to make way for a new development.

You can cross by foot or bike or pass under by the same. A 100+ year old bridge that be admired for its construction or just used for its convenience

Marvelous historic swing bridge spanning Darling Harbor. The bridge was completed in 1902 and carried horse and buggy and auto traffic until 1981. Now open only to pedestrians and bicyclists. A stroll across the bridge is a wonderful pleasure. If you have a chance view the bridge from below to appreciate the ancient steel and wooden structure.

This bridge is where one stroll on to view Darling Harbour & its vicinities. A very long but nice & wide bridge. Lots of people including joggers.

The lovely historic, working turn table bridge, is the centre feature of the Darling Harbour precinct, it is pedestrianised, which is always a good thing.

Good views from old road bridge across Darling Harbour and of the Maritime Museum. Now fully pedestrianised, it's worth a stroll if you're nearby.

Located near our hotel, we crossed the bridge on a number of occasions to visit King and Cockle wharfs. Great that its use is restricted to pedestrians and cyclists and we could meander across enjoying the views from this great vantage point. The lift and escalators on the CBD side very useful to access the wharf areas and boardwalk.
