We loved our visit to this place. Highly recommend. Lots of immersive experiences and loads of wonderful information....and I'm more of a scenery person than a history person!

Excellent facility & good value at $28pp. The two theatre presentations were very interesting, one about the RFDS & one about the 1942 bombing of Darwin by the Japanese.
There are also two short VR films that brought you closer to these two separate stories. Coupled with various exhibits, including an RFDS plane, this facility delivers on both quality & value.

Excellent Museum. It goes into the bombing raids Darwin suffered during WW2 as well as tge Royal Flying Doctor Service and tells both stories really well with a series of displays and interactive displays. You can even climb on board and actual plane. Tge gift shop is really nice too. And it has a little shuttle bus that takes you up and down to the Wharf area, which was most welcome as it was raining heavily tge day of our visit.

En tur på RFDS museet er en rigtig god oplevelse, hvor man har mulighed for - med VR briller - at være med på en flyvetur med et RFDS-fly - meget spændende. Der er rigtig god information om lægernes virke rundt omkring på de afsides steder i Australien.
Museet var dog noget mindre end vi lige havde regnet med - men alt i alt var det en god oplevelse.
I forbindelse med dette museum var ligeledes et andet museum om bl.a. bombardementet af Darwin under 2. verdenskrig. Her var også mulighed for at følge slaget med VR briller.
På en varm dag var dejligt at komme ind i det air konditionerede museum.
Museet var dog noget mindre end vi lige havde regnet med - men alt i alt var det en god oplevelse.
I forbindelse med dette museum var ligeledes et andet museum om bl.a. bombardementet af Darwin under 2. verdenskrig. Her var også mulighed for at følge slaget med VR briller.

This facility uses a range of modern mediums making for an engaging experience and will likely appeal to more people than a standard museum. My favourite component is the virtual reality headsets. The two holographic movies are also very good. With the exception of the plane, the facility is very accessible. The staff are very helpful and explain the whole layout as you enter.

We arrived with only modest expectations, seeking an event to override some boredom during the day, and mildly concerned about the price. But, within about 10 minutes, we realised this facility is no ordinary museum. The first virtual reality experience, in which users are embedded in the port nearby, or floating in the sea, while the bombs are pouring from the sky overhead during WWII, was powerful and memorable. The second virtual reality experience, in the outback, on a royal flying doctor service, while a patient is dying, was just as moving. And almost everything else about the museum--the absorbing movies, replete with remarkable stories and holographic images as well as the privilege to board one of the plane--was stunning. The anticipation we experienced while waiting on the plank was not quite fulfilled. But, once you are aware that you are standing on the precise spot in which the events of WWI unfolded, any concerns dissipate very quickly.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the bombing of Darwin exhibit. The hands on and virtual reality aspects were excellent, as was the hologram story telling. It was fun to climb right inside the airplane too. Well worth the visit, and the walk there was fun, even in the heat. The staff were very pleasant.

Technology has taken a major step forward to present 2 iconic displays - Royal Flying Doctors and Bombing of Darwin in WWII. Bombing of Darwin - hologram short story, 360 deg goggles to immerse yourself in the bombing of Darwin, air raid signals and video recreation of the bombing where you can feel like you are part of it. Royal Flying Doctors - hologram short story, walk through an actual aircraft that was used by the service, 360deg views from the nurse and the pilot.
The gift shop is fully equipped with souvenirs and all staff are friendly and helpful.
3hr Parking is available on the wharf out the front of the building.
The aircon is pretty good too when you come inside from the heat :)

Thanks for the five star review. Technology certainly has taken a step forward, its a very interactive way to learn about these iconic events. The facility is a great fund raising tool for the RFDS and the gift shop is a great way to donate.

This was a great history lesson, and very well presented. Staff was amazing and helpful. Shuttle bus from Waterfront when they close, but a lovely walk.

Hi. I tried searching this but cant find the info. how do you actually get to your facility? We will be having breakfast at the lime cafe just under the glass lift on the waterfront. Is the wharf walkable from there? We would like to arrive 10am on a sat. Too early for the free shuttle. Thanks.

It’s a very pleasant walk. Probably just 10-15 minutes. We walked the wharf a few times and we were staying a 10 minute walk from town.

Hi, I also have mobility issues. What volunteer did you ask? What rent a car compnay? Thanks so much. We are going in August for 21 days. I am having trouble nailing down destinations because it is so vast. Any info would help. We will spend at least a week at GBR.

The site is generally accessible. How much you will get from the experience may depend upon your disability, but if it is not a cognitive issue then you will enjoy yourself. We walked there. Took 20 minutes from town. There are shuttles, Uber or taxis.
How long would you recommend spending at this location to see it properly?

We recommend 2 hours, your ticket is valid all day and we offer a pass out option so you can enjoy lunch on the wharf before returning to the air-conditioning to enjoy our stories told through the wonders of technology
