The Bushland Centre is very good, and the people who work there are very helpful and kind. They have beautiful bushwalks, a free native plants program for local residents and many engaging activities and resources for kids of all ages. My primary school age kids and I went for an easy and very enjoyable bushwalk after some helpful tips from the Centre and a picnic at the tables near the playground. We saw a lot of interesting wildlife and learned of many other trails nearby that we want to walk soon.
We have lived just 5 minutes away for a year and didn’t know about this hidden gem - and there is quite a bit here to explore. We will definitely be coming back!

Enjoyed a lunch break here and decided to walk the 200m nature trail. Well laid out and level, suitable for all ages and plenty of informative plaques around the walk.
Great playground and nature centre for the kids!

Such a beautiful spot right in suburbia. If you want to experience some original north Brisbane bushland this place is well worth a visit. Plenty of interesting hiking tracks and a helpful Interpretive Centre open during the week, which offers regular activities for adults and kids. Great for educating little ones about the environment. This was my first visit and I am a local, but I'll definitely be back to explore the tracks and beautiful bushland.

Spent the afternoon wandering around the bush tracks then a picnic on the lawn in the beautiful Brisbane winters sun. Great place to take young children.

I had no idea there was so much to do for young children at Downfall Creek and it’s so central. They have fantastic school holidays sessions where children get to learn about our Brisbane bush and Creek environments by actually getting into it and exploring like a scientist or Ranger. The staff are so helpful and the paths are very well sign posted. The short walk is only 200 metres.

This whole area lends itself very well to family/group gatherings as there is plenty of open space, free bar-b-ques, ample sheltered seating, walking paths where the abundant wildlife can be easily spotted and children's play area. It is in a fairly built up zone but you wouldn't know it with all the bush area providing great shelter from suburbia. Only negative was that there was a deal of rubbish lying around. All said, it is an easily accessible park area well worth visiting.

A great little wildlife area lots of information in the centre and nice little bush paths.
We saw wallabies and there are lots of nesting bats.
Well worth a visit, especially as it's FREE

Downfall Creek is like a hidden gem in the middle of suburbia. There are picnic grounds, shelter sheds and free BBQs, a really Impressive interpretive centre (though sadly not open on weekends), there is a brilliantly designed Playground that is great for little people and there is one of the most accessible walking trails for people with disability in SEQ (the only other one is a really overgrown dodgy rope trail at Binna Burra. This one is really great including braille signs and kick boards for those with canes/ wheel chairs.
The bike path that starts at the Enviornment Centre connects through to Chermside / 7th brigade park and beyond - Just watch out for magpies once you leave the reserve (near Webster Rd).
I love the bushwalking at Downfall the best.
There are a number of shorter trails and you can combine a few together with the other Chermside Hills reserves to do a really great 7km circuit "figure of eight" across the wildlife bridge over Hamilton Rd and do the loop at Chermside Hills reserve too if you need something more challenging. Some good heart pumping hills!
There is an amazing array of wildlife there considering you'r surrounded by suburbia there are swamp wallabies, birds, possums and I love the flying fox colony nearby one path near the creek. Great to see Nature so close and making these oases their home.
The only downer was that I think the locals who walk their dogs through are a bit lax and don't bother taking bags with them or carrying them out to the bins provided,
(don't know why that is so hard?) or that the people using the park for birthday parties don't think to take their rubbish back home to their own bins and leave it overflowing in the bins sometimes - shame really trashes a lovely picnic area.

This Chermside Reserve area in McDowall is a great place to visit and walk and is mainly designed for younger people with young families. The play ground and playing area is spacious. some of the walks are designed for wheel chairs and there is braille signage for the visually impaired. The walks were calming considering the entrance was on a main road.
