Stroll along Southbank Boardwalk past the Library and Art Galleries and you arrive at Kurilpa Point Park and from here both pedestrians and cyclists can cross to Tank Street and continue across George Street and Roma Street to Emma Miller Place and the Roma Parklands. I found it to be a rather odd construction and later discovered that it is the world's largest hybrid tensegrity bridge. The bridge is described as " a multiple-mast, cable-stay structure based on principles of tensegrity producing a synergy between balanced tension and compression components to create a light structure which is incredibly strong." Engineers will understand. There are excellent viewing platforms and rest areas and a canopy runs the length of the bridge. The structure is equally impressive when viewed from underneath in passing on the City Cat. We had a distant view of the bridge lighting one night when we visited a restaurant in South Bank

We noticed this bridge on the bus ride to Mount Coot-tha and decide to stop on the way back. We walked over and enjoyed the views over the river. You end up near the Gallery of Modern Art and the State Library. Well worth a walk.

From Tank Street in CBD, very close to my accomodation in the Infinity Tower, one of the tallest buildings of Brisbane, it was natural that I would use the pedestrian and cyclist only Kurilpa Bridge to get to the Southbank, where one arrives between the Kurilpa Point Park and the GOMA (Museum of Modern Art).

The bridge looks rather odd with its masts sticking out in different directions and all the cables in between. This has to do that with the fact that it was built along the modern concept of tensegrity (tensional integrity) and till today it is considered the longest bridge - with its 425m - to have been constructed along these rather demanding principles, offering great stability though, once completed. In 2011 the bridge was declared as 'World Transport Building of the Year'.

The bridge has a canopy for protection and there are platforms with benches that offer great views over the Brisbane river in both directions. From the Southbank I used the Goodwill Bridge, the other pedestrian-cyclist only bridge in Brisbane, a bit further to the east, to go back to CBD.

Love the architecture of this bridge which has light displays at night.
Great way to get from the CBD to Southbank. Relaxing and has spots to sit on the bridge and watch the river.

The bridge is simply stunning with its long white sleek lines. It reminds me of Italy and of the Burke Brise Soleil here in Milwaukee. We walked across it to get from South Bank to the other side. Lovely.

A bridge for walking people and bikers. The design looks eccentric that could easily catch your imagination. A quick way to cross the river between the Southbank and the City.

Very spectacular, walk from South Bank to the bridge and back via the city. At night it comes to life with colored lights.

For just walkers and cyclists, this bridge has interesting design, like boat masts, and a nice place to linger.

This bridge is for foot and cycle traffic only and provides a great link between the City and the cultural precinct at Southbank, in particular the State Library and the Gallery of Modern Art. The design reminds me of a dead cockroach lying on it's back with it's legs in the air.
