The ideal place to unwind

The perfect book store. Well worth dropping in for a browse and a coffee. If you time it right you might even get to listen to the resident pianist as you work your way around.

One of the favourite parts of our holiday was finding this gem of a place.

It’s part bookshop, part library, part home - my eldest and I loved finding this and browsing the aisles, and I loved being able to pick up some new books to replace the ones I finished on our trip.

Great ambiance and welcoming staff, being given chocolate as well was a lovely surprise that seems to demonstrate the thoughtful approach of the owner.

The world needs more places like this and if you love books you need to visit.

A sanctuary, slice of heaven

Loved finding this hidden gem of Port Douglas. Staff were lovely and attentive, offering tea, coffee and chocolates to customers as they arrive. You can take a seat anywhere to read and the atmosphere is peaceful and safe. In the busy hustle and bustle of tourist Port Douglas it was a really nice safe haven for an hour or two. There is also a kids corner and young adult section so caters for all ages. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family alike.

Great experience

I stumbled on this fantastic book shop while I was staying in Port Douglas for six days. Not only was the owner playing lord of the rings music (win-win) but I managed to find a wonderful Lord of the rings boxet of supporting appendices in excellent condition. He not only spoke to me about Lord of the rings but offered to cover the cost to ship it to me in Melbourne (as I couldn't fit it in my bag). It arrived in perfect condition) and the customer service was beyond reproach.

I only wish I could have bought more. If you are in this area please stop by and get yourself a wonderful travelling companion of a book. You won't be sorry. Local bookshops like these are the true lifeblood of Australia, not these mass chain businesses where service is non-existent. Thank you again for your service and warm welcoming attitude.

Worth as look

Well stocked, with attempt at organisation but essentially a second hand bookstore. Prices are a bit more expensive and books have probably been bought and sold for years in the Port Douglas area. Was hoping to find some books for my library, but always luck of the draw. Worth a try

A quiet oasis in a tourist town. Fabulous books, history, and ambiance. Do visit…enjoy the eclectic array of the old and the new…something for everyone…including a cup of tea and coffee.

The Book Lounge Port Douglas

What a fabulous bookshop! Unfortunately we only had half an hour to spare here, but you could easily lose yourself for a few hours.

The storekeeper, James made us feel at home, offering us a cup of tea or coffee and welcoming us like we were visiting his home and he was sharing his personal library with us.

There is something for everyone here - from the youngest readers, to collectors and everything in between.

I highly recommend a stop here.

Great place for book lovers

The Book Lounge is a great place to browse and pick up a book or three! There is absolutely no rush here. The place is comfortable with chairs and lounges throughout and the host encourages you to enjoy the atmosphere. Thank you James for interesting discussions on the Classics. This is more than a store, it is a book lounge, and a ‘must do’ for anyone interested in books and ideas.

What a great shop!

Glad this place was recommended to me. Even if not buying a book it’s worth just having a look around the shop. Really cool experience, such a good range and lots of spots to sit down to read and enjoy a book. Friendly staff and coffee available too.

Amazing place to browse

I visited here multiple times while staying in PD. Beautiful cosy store, the owner is so friendly and helpful, and I managed to pick up a huge amount of random books. Such a great place to wander around and get lost in.
