My boyfriend and I (late 20’s/early 30’s) went to this on a Sunday evening. Weren’t sure what to expect and as the entry fee was only $15 each we thought it would be very basic. It was actually a very cool experience. The dome shaped cinema/video tour of the night sky allowed us to chill out in recliners and have a very up close virtual experience. After the show we were able to view Jupiter very clearly through the large telescopes provided. Great activity at a very cheap price.

This was a fantastic experience. Highly recommended. Excellent value for money for all astronomy buffs.

I happened to stumble across this experience on one of my last days in New Zealand and it didn’t disappoint! Listening to Pink Floyd accompanied by a laser show, with a complimentary beverage and some cheese was an absolutely spectacular way to enjoy your evening. Cannot recommend this enough!

A first visit here. Saw the show ‘Our Night Skies’. Fantastic facility - lie back in super comfy chairs (at least one person in the audience fell asleep as evidenced by snoring) - and watch the Universe play out above on an end-to-end domed movie screen.
Great presenter who talked us through some of the more notable features of our night skies including the planets and constellations. A great show.

By the looks of the website we had great expectations for this visit to the Stardome. It was easy to get there by bus from Queen street in central Auckland.
The exhibition was okay, but not very big. We came an hour before our "Grand Tour of the Solar System". We were done with the exhibition after 15 minutes maybe.
The staff didnt really engage either, and didnt show much interest in their guests.
The "tour guide" was interested enough but (sorry) had a terrible accent which was kinda annoying. The "cinema" in the dome was dissapointing. The pictures seemed like from the 90s and were really simple. I actually fell asleep. And I didnt miss anything according to my friend.

The marketing totally oversold the experience, as it was realistically more a standard planeterium experience with a subtle hint of Star Wars (talked about various planets) and a random Carrie Fisher tribute youtube video played at the end.
I've been to planetarium experience before and expected an immersive visual star wars experience, traveling through galaxies but it was far from it. Just a standard talk about the night sky, with star wars references sprinkled in.
The session was half an our late, and the first session the chap rambled on, so my little one just fell asleep.
Snacks = one brown paper bag of popcorn. Drink was your choice of 1x beer, wine or soft drink
No prizes or even mention of a best dressed competition.
The only thing that was great was the 4 characters dressed up has various troopers.
Would not recommend, waste of time. Better off just going to the planeterium on any other day and saving the money.
