One of my regular walks and it never gets old....particularly gorgeous after a good amount of rain. Can be slippery in parts, but not unmanageable, and steep but absolutely worth it.

Visiting Kaiate Falls is very therapeutic. The walk is reasonably steep in places, with several sets of steps up and down. The selection of waterfalls is quiet special, both visually and aurally. Take plenty of drinking water

Bit of a climb down then back up, but well worth it to sit at the base of the falls and meditate on life. The path is well maintained. Just wished I'd done more stair training for fitness prior.

The walk up and down to see the falls, although steep, was amazing. The sight and sound of the water falling is memorable. There are many native birds to look out for, along with the not-so-native colorful roosters and hens.
Some of the paths and steps can be a little challenging - wear good firm footwear, and be of reasonable fitness.
The view of the Mount form up there is worth it

A great walk through the bushes with incredible close-ups of waterfalls. Not an easy walk with lots of steps but well worth it if you can manage.

A 15 minute walk, half downhill and then back up. Some steps are quite an effort so wouldn't recommend for anyone with dodgy knees. The pools are stunning, but couldnt swim during our visit due to warning signs. Worth the visit though.

You need moderate fitness for this, whenever you walk down....you have to walk back up again. Nice walk, great views, cool water for a swim at the bottom. Tracks could do with a bit of a touch up but otherwise easy to follow.

As a visitor from up North, I am always puzzled as to which direction I am looking in, and today when sitting on the bench alongside the waymarking signage, the view is to coin a phrase, "to die for", and after climbing the steep steps back to the small, upper car park I know what that means. My wife, Patricia, has been coming over to Tauranga from the UK for several years , mainly to spend time with our daughter's family and our gorgeous grandchildren, boys and girls, myself less so, but this is the first time we have gone up to the falls. On seeing the sign to the attraction just of the Wairoa Road, we parked up, not realising that you could drive to an upper car park which accommodates up to twenty vehicles. The track to the falls runs off this upper parking area, and several people returning to the top, breathlessly informed us that the going was tough, and so it was. At 75 with knee implants in both legs, and an artificial hip, I have to be cautious about underfoot, and the track is not well-made, with uneven steps, some far to much of a drop, and loose gravel to the side as an alternative, with no supporting rail either side. So gingerly I dropped, said and shuffled my way down the track leading to the upper falls, with my much younger wife sprinting ahead, no doubt mindful of the possible insurance claim for sudden death available. All was worth it when the top pool slid into view, full of gamboling , bikini-clad lovelies, just before the waters disappeared. Worth it!

Achtung nicht ins Wasser gehen! Das Wasser ist Baktieriel zu stark belastet. Daher sollte man nicht darin schwimmen.

I always take the dogs there - lots of stairs, so a bit challenging for little ones ;-)

As far as I know you would have to rent a car and drive there, but it is quite possible that some tour company may take you there. I would recommend renting a car because then you can go anywhere you like on your own terms and your own timetable without taking a crowd of other tourists with you. It is a bit more involved in planning what you might want to do, but is always our preferred means of travel.

I think you'll struggle. It's a steep climb down (and later up again) over probably 200 steps. Some of the steps are very high. You can always try a little bit and return if it is too hard.

there is no charge for going into the Karate Falls but you have to get there and may need to rent a car. Hotel prices should be available online. we really like Quest as they provide all amenities including washer and drier in the room, which are great for a long journey.
