Ye Olden town is a picturesque step back in time. Arrive there with an empty stomach and stuff yourself with treats from the onsite bakery. Duck into the record store and while away more time and leave with any genre of music you like. I left with a fossilised shark tooth from the gem store (type unknown). If you are in desperate need of a hair cut then the barber can sort your unruly locks. If you have an hour or two to spare, do yourself a favour.

We went to the Historic Village in Tauranga today
Really was not much to see. A lot of the shops were closed on Monday as well. We were probably out of there in 15 minutes.
If you had nothing else to do and wanted to kill some time you may want to go.

the historic village in Tauranga is much like any other historic village in the world but this is New Zeealand! Just about the furtherest spot that Captain Cook made it to. Looking back a couple of hundred years this village gives some ider of how things were then

This shopping mall is a work in progress. It takes older buildings moved to this location to house small businesses including crafts and art shops, eateries, retail and such. About half is up and open but there is a lot more development going on to date.
As for "historic?" There needs to be more info boards about the historic nature of each building if it is to have credibility as historic.
This is a stop on the hop on / off bus so it was worth a visit.

although a small area this is a fun place to stop and experience the past with cute little shops and a Farmers Market on a regular basis. Often they run a special focus and have bands which all adds to the ambience. No charge to enter so a nice family stop to embrace the past

I never knew about the historic village until word of mouth. It has lots of little old colonial building being used as intriguing craft shops, (the lead light place is very nice), there is a theatre and cafes, and more. Special events take place there, there are plenty of toilets, so it can cater for crowds. Worth a visit and no fee to enter.

Parking was a real issue. More than half of the businesses were shut. Needs to get more historic. Many of the buildings were new, recreations. Would have appreciated knowing the history of those buildings that weren't new.

The village has some interesting buildings and church but not enough places to eat or drink coffee or buy an ice-cream.

We called in to the village market and just stayed. The village was open (free entry) and the market was fine as were the shops. We sat at the Whipped Baker cafe on the corner, listened to the old time music from 1XT, the AM radio station that broadcasts from the village, enjoyed god coffee, enormous sausage roll with really nice atmosphere and ambience. A trip down memory lane and a great place to spend a Sunday morn.

The village has been pillaged. There is nothing historic left except the shells of the buildings with overpriced boutique shops. Even Faulkner house has been stripped and filled with touristy art.
