Mount Hutt the snow was good but customer service is not.
Having not been there for years my first interaction in Guest services was with a guy from Colorado who was the most unfriendly person I ever met in any business ever! I didn't get his name but he was beyond bored unengaged and unwelcoming.
Please tell him not to come back and to avoid people until he learns to interact positively with humans or just don't. They guy in the rentals was much more helpful. Thanks long haired guy . The storage person also looked annoyed I came in. Really ?
The shuttle drivers were very good and helpful also.
Hey I worked on a mountain myself for 3 years so I know what to do.
Please Mount Hutt do some work in recruiting good staff.
People are paying a lot to visit your experience and the Guest services should be the most important interaction. Stop employing these young people who don't care about their jobs. It really affects your business. I get it for lifties. But not the Internal customer service staff.
Also btw going cashless is only convenient to you.
Why ?? It's just not a good idea.
What if your system crashed ?
It just shows again that you don't care about your customer needs

This place is an absolute scam and nobody should support this business. We rented snow chains to travel up Mount Hutt and these chains were fitted to the wheels by the staff themselves. We were also told that we cannot travel faster than 30km/h. We followed this advice and travelled below 30, yet when we returned to the shop to return the chains we were told they were broken. Despite following everything they told us, their product was terrible quality and it was in no way our fault that they broke, yet we were charged $100 for the damages. When selling a product, it should be fit for use and even when we followed the guidelines provided, it still broke and we were liable for this despite it being the fault of the business completely. The poor quality of these chains also dealt some damage to our car after breaking which we will further have to pay repair fees for. I also noticed at least 10 other reviews having this exact same issue, so I confronted the worker and voiced these concerns. He told me that the reviews came from people who fit the chains on themselves and didn’t fit them properly so it broke. He had no way to know this and was likely saying whatever would least harm his reputation, knowing the place he’s running is a terrible business that takes advantage of their customers. The behaviour and attitude of this business was disgusting and I wouldn’t want anyone else to support this business

I had the most disappointing experience with buying a season pass that costs a lot of money for the whole family.
We went there on Saturday 26Aug 2023 to snowboard. They stopped us on the parking where you need to have your chains fitted and said no one was allowed in the mountain because the parkings up were at full capacity. They said we had to wait for at least 2h to see if any space would free up the mountain. No shuttle bus offered. They just want to make money but don't care about their customers driving all the way from Christchurch and spending more than 100$ to get there for nothing. Really bad management. I am not buying a pass again.

Thanks for your feedback. When our car parks are full they are full. We don't have enough vehicles to pick guests up from the info booth car park area. We have to wait for one out and one up. In 2024 we are looking at making our top car parks for those who have full cars to park in and those who are single will need to park in our lower car parks and shuttle. We have seen increased single vehicles arrive and others who are full cant get up. 99% of our guests come from CHC.
We do wish you all the best in which ski area you choose to ski this year.

My partner and I did the Intro to Snow course and loved it! All the staff were friendly and the mountain itself was amazing to ski. Our instructors (Sophia, Lara, Haruko, Jay) were incredible and helped us to advance our skills quickly while having a lot of fun. We hope to come back again soon :)

Mount Hutt admin staff are the worst. I was advised in writing that there would be half day sessions for children for $119. I planned my trip budget around this information. I tried for over a month to book my sessions in and followed up numerous times only to be advised that the information given to me was incorrect. I planned my flights and accom based on the information they gave me, I would have booked elsewhere if they had given me the accurate information but now I am stuck on this mountain. Despite the fact that they know they are wrong, the Head of Customer Service, Ceri, has refused to honour the price quoted to me or come up with options that suit mu family. In fact her service is so poor that I need to follow up multiple times per day to even get correct information as their website is riddled with wrong information. I’m still waiting for Ceri to reply to my latest email.
I've always loved going to Mt Hutt and the staff on the actual mountain are fabulous, unfortunately the shocking website with incorrect information and staff members like Ceri who cannot think outside the box and provide quality customer service ruin it for everyone.
I certainly don't recommend this mountain for
families.

We did a little road trip to the ski area without snow. The road is quite scary but the view is incredible. There's heaps of things to do like mountain biking hiking etc.

We did have a short day since we had to drive up from Fairlie. It snowed the day before so we had to chain up and that ate more mountain time. We didn't get to the snow until around 1100. The snow was really soft and powdery which was nice. Unfortunately, it was well used so it was quite lumpy both on and off-piste.
There were three lifts. The North-West express, the closest to the cafe, led to the beginner's runs. The snow here was nice and there were powdery patches off-piste. some areas were a bit icy or very mogully, particularly in the bowl area. The summit chair goes all the way to the top. There were quite a few nice runs along here albeit a bit lumpy. There was also a trail that headed to the Virgin Mile to get along the edge of the resort. It had really nice views when the clouds left. the last chair, towers triple, is in a difficult area. I was wanting to head down through international but it was already late. I was able to ride up from halfway up though. That entry is near the top carpark and has an entry into the log chute.
The base has a few eating options including a restaurant (Opuke Kai), a coffee kiosk (Sixteen10) and the Sky High Cafe. The cafe does have its own seating inside but you do need to purchase food from there. Otherwise, there are a few seats inside and quite a few outside.
I quite enjoyed my time at Mt Hutt but would have preferred a smoother ride. The powder probably didn't help with that but did add something different to the trip.

Great terrain for all levels and a cool terrain park for a bit of extra spice...
Even on the Sunday - the lines weren't too long and only 2-5 mins.
During the week was epic and zero lines even on the powder day.
Stayed in Methvan and chch - both easy commutes.

Year on year recently we have been endlessly let down by the poor management at Mt Hutt. Our Most recent was during a Friday we looked at the report and decided to make the trip from Christchurch, at around 9:30am.
The main page of the website touted "Open" and Sunny.
We drove to the bottom of the access road, only to be greeted by a Digital Sign saying "Road Closed" and a Queue of traffic.
When asking the "Mountain" staff what was happening, The Justification was "Carparks are Full!", We asked about the Bus Service from the Bottom of the Access road only to be Told "We don't run a Bus server nor ever have, Funny that We have been returning customers for over a decade and there has always been some form of Bus Access, especially on Days that the Car Parks are full.
This will be the last Season Pass we purchase with NZ Ski.

Great snowboarding.
Dislocated my shoulder. Max and Rob rescued me off their patrol and carried me down the mountain.
Dr Kate and the beautiful Nurse Bridget gave me some sweet drugs to numb the extreme pain. And set my shoulder back in! 😂
Huge thanks to the patrol teams and emergency team on the mountain. 😊

Got some question for my first skiing trip to NZ: I am thinkng of getting to Mt. Hutt for a ski trip around the 12th june. I see that the estimated opening date is the 8th, but how accurate has these been in past years? And what kind of snow conditions can one expect at this time of the year? Are there any snow making facilities that provide some sort of back up if the weather is dryer than expected? Thanks in advance!

If the cafe at my hutt closed for corporate functions does this mean no one can go and buy lunch there? This would be very disappointing as I think people bank on being able to get a good feed on the mountain!

Hi Marts,
At Mt Hutt we have 3 food outlets open each day. Sometimes we do have private groups who hire out Hubers Café up stairs as this is what you might be referring to. If so you still have Sixteen Ten and Sky High Café on the main deck to purchase food.

I read on one website there is a park and ride for $5 return from the bottom of the mountain road, but can't find reference to this anywhere else? Does this exist, and, how much is parking on the mountain car parks?

I'm sorry I have no idea. We parked right at the top basically next to the steps up as we were out of school holidays. There was a park and shuttle parking bay on the way up (not far from
The top) but nobodies on coast sorry. It's probably free as at Coronet Peak it is.

You can certainly play in the snow up at Mt Hutt. There is a slope dedicated to tobogganing (bring one up from town) and plenty of room to experience the snow. We have a cafe and restaurant when it's time to warm up. Would love to see you up at Mt Hutt soon.
