I’m a local to lyttelton and this place is a toxic mess of 24 hours 7 days a week industrial noise, polluted harbour and consistently bad air quality. Christchurch Council don’t care the owners of the port (lpc) don’t care the residents have given, this place does not meet the basic world health organisation standards for living.

Nice day trip from Christchurch. We got here and looked for some food to return to the beach area. What is worth it is the path. In itself it does not offer anything incredible.

It was a great view and such a stunning view and a nice walk. Especially in the sunshine and blue sky it was a lovely day and great pictures.

Mostly an unwelcoming port town. There were a few signs around clearly stating that some businesses didn't want tourists in their town. We visited on our way back from lunch at Akaroa (gorgeous tourist bay town) to see the partially rebuilt Timeball Station. It was really interesting, even though a bit tricky to visit as there is no clearly marked parking. The views to and from the town are lovely, so maybe worth a quick stop for the Timeball Station, and coffee or food from a business (find one WITHOUT the signs.)

Thoroughly enjoyed our farmers market morning out in this unspoilt township. Well preserved heritage buildings, a great rural-cum-harbourside vibe, a range of quality produce on offer and a funky little craft brewery in the centre of town.

Someone suggested we catch the bus from Christchurch to lyttelton. Thought we were coming to a nice bay to catch lunch and a nice view.
It's a port town and they make it clear they don't want tourists.
Went to in to local cafe but sign on door was clear they weren't happy about tourism, so we saved our money, got back on bus to have lunch in Christchurch

This place is quite accessible from Christchurch. We made a day trip to explore and have a stroll through town. We enjoyed chatting to locals at the local shops and finding out about the town’s history at the information centre. We took a short walk to see the Timeball as well. Would highly recommend.

A tiny and friendly township about 15minutes (13km) out of Christchurch via some tunnels and a scenic drive. Lyttelton is a small, very hilly and pretty township where the big cruise ships berth at the wharf.
