This is a great place to be, though only 6 weeks at a time. Staff are great people to deal with, and the peacefulness of this place is just magic! Facilities are to a high (commercial) standard. Price is good too. Don't forget to check out the animal farm nearby, or experience the many great walks in the area! Don't forget to visit Brooklands either, the neighboring suburb which was lost to the earthquakes, as it has just as stunning wildlife and scenery.

This is our go to beach to walk our dogs. The forest is right up to the beach so there is always the choice of sand and water or tracks and trees. Its shared with horses and cyclists so take care.
There is also a huge grassed picnic area with a playground, marshland and a camp ground. Have used all facilities over the years and apart from the campground its all free.

Worth The $100 a night for self contained cottage (motel). very clean comfy clean beds and pillows and extremely well supplied with all you need. Four wonderful nights in such a peaceful beautiful place. Staff are amazing very friendly and helpful. Park is very well maintained and could even access a vege garden! fresh lettuce ad herbs. Easy access to swimming beach and amazing local walks.

Nice day and drove to Spencer Park and played mini golf where I played as a kid, where these days do you play mini gold these days for $4 adults and it was exactly as it was when I was a kid, good course and a lot of fun, bonus only one there no waiting

It's even better now!
Spencer Park has upgraded their facilities and they are brilliant!
This is a BIG park so much of room you are definitely not in each other's living room.
Fabulous kitchen, a real joy to cook there, and do the dishes!!
Beautiful toilets and showers (although the music they have over the speakers is
'The Edge' and pushing 70 quite hard, I would have preferred the 'Magic' radio station! :) ), which are clean (and cleaned regularly). The showers are lovely (and 'free') although time-limited (as they should be - although there is tons of time to have a nice shower, including hair wash etc)
The staff are really friendly and helpful.
Only downside (apart from the 'Magic' radio station not playing through the speakers - I'm pushing 70 so my needs are probably different to most :) ) is that there is nowhere to hang your towel when having a wash (this does not apply to the shower cubicles, where there are some hooks). I had to hang my towel over the light switch (see photos). This is common with many motor camps throughout New Zealand, they generally provide great facilities but forget the 'little, but important things (first world problem I know) for their customers.
A great place to stay, I will be staying here again and recommended to others.

Staying at the park meant we could explore this place more. With pleanty of things to do. Head out in any direction for a walk towards the Styx river mouth. Wetlands with loads of birds and viewing areas, see the pictures attached. Head across the road from the campground and go past the rope courses. Head the other side to the forest. Would be a great place to have a bbq and there is a small pool and play area.

The adrenalin run may be fun but the rest of it is a run down mess. I suspect the walks along the lagoon are quite nice the trails are not suitable for a stroller, even out off-road model. After looking at the trails and finding them unsuitable for the stroller we thought we would have a look at the small animal park.... what a dismal place. Most of the animals seem to have died or run away. We saw several fowl, two sheep, two doves, a parrot and some rabbits. Many of the cages were broken, presumably in the breakout, and those that were still holding their occupants need a visit from animal welfare. Disappointing in general and the small animal park disgraceful.

Huge sandpit with water play, awesome flying fox. More relaxing for parents than Margaret Mahy (in town) fewer crowds, too. Great place for free play on a nice day.

We stayed in one of their cabins so we could do the adjacent adrenalin forest. Nice & clean cabin with everything you need.
Very large camp with a well stocked shop too. Lots of play areas for kids. Short walk to the beach & brilliant playground with a flying fox.

Perfect place! Had a catch up which involved 4 kids between 4-7. This place was perfect. Flying foxes, huge fields for kicking the ball around, swings, great hide and seek location and easy sitting places for the parents. We only played at the playground but I believe there are heaps more activities on site here.

Hi. We're looking at coming for a bbq on Saturday, do we need to book anything? Or can we just turn up.
And can we bring our own bbq in case the ones there are being used.
