Immaculate gardens, designed beautifully and really peaceful. There is an accessible audio guide about the garden history, well worth listening to if you have time.

Visited with family. Amazing tranquil space in the middle of the city. Design very clever making the garden seem bigger than is. Seated spaces to take in the atmosphere. Craftsmanship of the structures are very impressive. Good to learn about local Chinese history. Will go again

Make sure to plan enough time for this gem. It's small but there's so much to see and admire. Also take the time to read at least a few of the information pannels. An unforgettable outing for people who seek beauty, serenity and calm within a bustling city.

Very nice Chinese garden 🪴 . Another the buildings at this garden 🪴 reminded me of the buildings of at the China 🇨🇳 Pavilion at Epcot Center at Walt Disney World 🌍 in Florida . Lastly these gardens also remind of the Japanese Tea 🍵 Gardens in both San Francisco and Buenos Aires.

It is a small & basic garden but worth the visit. Specially if you are interested in
the history of early Chinese settlements during gold rush period in 1866.
If you got time, the video is over half an hour about the history on how the
Chinese was badly treated at that time. The entry fee are $10/adult & $7.20 for
senior. It is walking distance from town center & a pay car parking area
near by. There is also a small gift shop, tea house & also a clean toilet on site.
The majority of pathway are fully wheelchair accessible.

"Chinese Garden" isn't the first thing you'd think about when visiting Dunedin.
Its legendary Train Station is likely to be your first stop, and one would certainly not want to miss THAT.
Yet I noticed a sign for the Chinese Garden nearby and we decided to check it out.
We spent much more time there at this remarkable pretty unique gem of a place... An authentic Chinese Garden in the decidedly un-Chinese place.
Having spent special times in years gone by in China and in Japan, we were especially appreciative of this beautiful place.
Definitely worth an hour or two of your time, and if you pay attention and give it a chance, you will feel serene and uplifted when you leave in a way you didn't when you entered.
There is an audio guide included in your purchase price. Well worth using it and exploring the garden and its history with the information provided.

What an excellent venue,well worth the visit, very clean and well maintained.The story of how it was built in Shanghai dismantled and transported to Dunedin where it was Rebuilt is quite extraodinary .

One of our (4) friends is a quasi Chinese history buff! And he was the instigator of this
South Island trip..
$10, entry .. Upkeep, maintenance, is not for cheap…personally, $15 entry fee, would be appropriate… !!!
But I ask myself… WHY WAS IT NOT ON A BIGGER SITE !!!
To me, it is like to having a full sized dinner, plated on a “ lunch plate”!!!
Too cramped, and unable to display with emotive expression something that is unique
But, what I saw, was historical in some content… the fotos were informative!
The video gave snapshots of people involved over that period… and spent more
time watching the video, than the garden itself!
The garden, was/ is, a “ rockery”.. different natural shaped boulders, that was meant
to represent something.. what, I don’t know.. I have no eye for beauty!
A 15+ min stroll along the pathed outskirts of rock, and paths through the foto displays, was finished before I realised.. THATS, IT !!!
The “ rockery “here was a 5 min scene.. the Beijing Summer Palace’s Rockery was almost 2 looking…
A waste of what could have been , something for Dunedin, to crow about!

Is this place suitable for partly disabled persons? Meaning as in those who can only walk very short distance at a time, and unable to do more than 3 stairs at a time. Thank you

I would say Yes. You can get to most of it without going up more than a couple of steps and there are many places to sit and enjoy the garden.
