This is more than a gallery. More than a museum. It’s a celebration of art.
Modern and contemporary art along side older and historical.
It’s free but donation is suggested and requested.
There is thought provoking and fun art for everyone…young, old, families or solo.

A Welcoming Gallery!

The Dunedin Public Art Gallery is an absolute treasure. The staff are knowledgeable, passionate and helpful. The variety of art on display was well worth our visit. This Gallery is light-filled and appealing.

Great mix of classic and modern art, helpful staff, cool murals

We were in Dunedin for a couple days and we made time for a visit at this public art gallery. This is one of the best public art galleries that I have ever visited. The gallery has a good mix of classic, modern, and alternative/installation art. Very attentive staff and a beautiful gallery store. My wife and I enjoyed the exhibitions and the Maori 'Bloodlines' murals on a couple of the hallways. The free full-size posters for each exhibit is a great feature: we took two of them back home.

I loved the sparkling blue piece, I believe it was maori art. Also watching them perform was amazing. Would definitely go again.

Interesting way to spend an hour

Small, free, inspiring public art gallery. It held an interesting combination of very modern and conceptual works along with things from prior epochs. I was glad to have spent the hour we used to tour the gallery.

Poor art gallery

Hardly any art, certainly not my taste.
Thank goodness they don't charge as it certainly isn't worth paying to see.
Found the older lady to be a bit rude as well.

Lots of alternative ‘art’

Massive gallery with not a lot in it. Some very strange art - if that’s what you can call 49 dented tins on the floor. The best piece of art was an inflatable bunny in the foyer. Definitely not my cup of tea, unfortunately out of all the art on display it was all very alternative.
Others will no doubt love it being how art is very personal but for me alas it was poor. Maybe more styles would be more appealing to more people….

A repository of pretentiousness..that reduces the gallery

We were disappointed in the major exhibit at the gallery which was a demonstration of pretentious art writing masquerading as quality criticism as the writers attempted to justify exhibiting torn plastic bags, pieces of drift wood and assemblages as works of art. Not impressed.
