A great surprise.. we had a couple of failed attempts to visit so doing research before going to find out the times is a must. Once inside two guides showed us around, Ron and Ian. Very knowledgeable about the church and surrounds. The more questions we asked the more we got to see and hear about. We were able to visit all through the church, we saw the grave underneath the pews, the workings of the pipe organ, climb the bell tower for a magnificent view over Port Macquarie. A look into the huge open ceiling space and roof extensions was interesting. One of the best visits to a historic site we have done, and all for a donation. Many thanks to the guides for their patience and diligence in making our visit well worth while.

Lots of clothing, books and glassware as you would expect. Warning - don't dare ask to look at something from a showcase then not buy it! Made to feel quite uncomfortable.

You can only go inside this church for visiting on Thursdays. Worship days Wednesday and Sunday. From the outside the signage tells you it is convict built from 1824-1828

An amazing example of a convict era church. Mitch McKay's tour gave it a great context. The only difficulty was that it wasn't open on the days we could visit, so we were left peering in from outside.

Loving is at the base of the Christian message and these folks do that well. They open their service usually with singing, but not during Covid time

We were lucky to find this open to the public, not always the case so worth checking beforehand. It is run by volunteers who were more than happy to tell us all about it. Convict built in the 19th century and built to last! We were able to go to the top and take in the wonderful views as it is built on top of a hill. A 'must see' whilst in Port MacQuarie.

Found the car park a little confusing as we are "out of towners". The church is amazing and really worth a look inside if passing through this area.

This is a beautiful church and is the earliest one built in Port it has interesting pews and lots of history.

One of the oldest churches in Australia, it was convict built under military supervision. It was in the very early days of a penal settlement and before free settlers were encouraged into the area. The bricks were handmade by convicts and the mortar was also locally convict made.
The guide who took me for a tour was fantastic. He was full of information and happy to answer questions. He explained a lot about the politics of the time and the type of convict who was sent to Port Macquarie. He also explained the burial under the floor of the church.
It is well worth the climb up the bell tower. The views are great. But also there are a number of interesting things to see on each level and they are beautifully presented.
And have a close look at the bricks outside for those with convict marks in them. Particularly interesting are the tally bricks.
