On our visit there was a large display of woodcuts and etchings... quite a different take on art. The associated cafe does a good coffee

While we were there, the main exhibition was titled “Hom Swit Hom” by Jasmine Togo-Brisbane and we found it to be thought provoking. Through her work, she delves into the south sea islander experience in the early days of sugar growing in Australia. Well worth a visit.

Went to see the Patricia Piccinni display called Curious Affection and it was an excellent display for a regional gallery. The layout and space was great. It was a Saturday so the restaurant was closed unfortunately. You could spend half an hour wandering through the exhibition. Free admission.

Our recent visit to Artspace Mackay was during COVID19, this small art gallery showcases temporary collections, we had the pleasure of viewing and interpreting the collections to ourselves I must say I was expecting a larger collection and maybe some locally significant art. The building design was modern and would be a welcome relief in the hot months. We enjoyed perusing the gallery gift store ant the reception staff on the day were most friendly and delightful to chat to. Attached to the gallery was a cafe which looked welcoming and filled with natural light.

Being very interested in art, we looked forward to seeing the Mackay Artspace. It is a small but lovely gallery with calm peaceful lighting and a pleasant ambience. The display was interesting and very political but focussed on one theme only. It would have been more exciting if there had been a wider variety of styles and topics. The most fascinating was a collection of work by Vincent Serico- full of colour, life and with a message for all of us. We are still enjoying the robust and knowledgeable examples of his work in the free handout from Artspacey

A nice but small art gallery in central Mackay. All of the art on display on my visit was of indigenous origin. A wonderful collection of Vincent Serico work is curt present. There is also a great space for creativity for group work and creation, which was currently being used for children.

Such an unusual art gallery and worth a visit. Easy to walk from most motel and accommodation near the CBD

Showings change monthly so there is always something different to look out. Not all art is appreciated by everyone but this place often amazes, you never know what your going to get.

A lovely building with sometimes interesting exhibitions. Sadly it is limited in space and content. There must be more art representing the area, but where can it be seen? Not much has changed in ten years.

High quality exhibition is soothing display space. The small gift shop was full of treasures. I was particularly impressed with the free children's activities which were first class in terms of organisation, presentation, supervision, inspirational and fun. The toilets were well maintained and the whole site offered a retreat from the otherwise busy town.
