We loved our visit to the botanic gardens, lots of gorgeous tropical plants. A lovely river & lots of wonderful birdlife to watch, was great to sit under a tree with a book. The only thing I was dissapointed not to see was frangipani trees which I love & did expect to see there.

The people who run The Botanic Gardens Visitor Information (Administration) and Tropical Shade Garden discriminate, and are not open to young people or bike riding or escooters.

Beautifully landscaped gardens that are spread out along the river. The walk is interesting and diverse. It will be more enjoyable as larger trees grow and more shade covers the paths.

A beautiful garden area beside the river. The gardens are well kept and there are plenty of informative signs. A cafe sits in the middle and is open for breakfast and lunch. Great relaxing place to walk and enjoy.

It's worth a visit, but you should definitely manage your expectations.

Gardens were well maintained but really only trees etc along the lagoon ? No flowers etc . Not much info on the plants etc but disappointed. Lovely cafe in gardens seems that is the most popular place in the gardens

Well maintained and nice walkways with waterfalls.... the only thing what was missing for us were Benches. We finally found one on the other end of the Park.
We didnt stop at the Cafe but the view from there was really nice.

The well designed and maintained large gardens were very pleasant, creating shade and open views at the same time. The cafe was attractive and had great coffee. On the TV news we found out that shortly after we left, a snake catcher was called to remove a large python from the cafe. Sorry we missed that excitement.

Lovely space with paths leading through various gardens and types of flora. There didn't seem too much too it overall (the area covered didn't seem vast), but I don't know if I might have just missed some of it. Either way, it was a lovely place to walk around to relax (especially right beside the tiny waterfall - lovely!), and the cafe made great coffee and scones! Toilets are close by and were clean. Really nice place to spend a few hours to just chill...

Kim at the centre was an initial good contact who meticulously arranged our appointment with Toni, the volunteer guide. Toni was excellent in her presentation, very knowledgeable about the relevant historical connections including First Nations connections to the plant life and environment. Thank you so much Toni and Kim.

Is there still a butterfly house in Mackay, if so where about's is it?
Hello,
The butterfly display held in May 2019 you might be referring to is no longer available. It was a live butterfly display at the Botanic Gardens for 1 week only. We do hope to have other displays such as this in the future. The gardens do attract a number of locally occurring butterfly species throughout the year, including the stunning Ulysses Butterfly at the right time of year.
