History abounds

Free entry into the museum so one can explore what Glenelg once was and how it is now. Very interesting displays and information on the past glory days in the area before the storms ruined a lot of it.

As a foreign visitor, I found the stories of the Kaurna People of the Adelaide Plains very moving. A pity the exterior of the centre is still under construction.

History and culture

They go through the history of Glenelg from before the European settlers came, mainly focused on the history of how this part of Australia was changed when the settlement came. Insight in how the journey was from Britain to Australia. Also a section with memorabilia from Glenelg as a tourist resort during the 1900s. Quite well displayed, nice setting. Friendly staff. It only bugged me a bit that they started off by stating how the life aboriginal people are the "forgotten one" and how important it is that they don't get lost in history, but afterwards don't focus much on it. They also had a small art gallery. Free entry but donation is encouraged. Friendly staff.

Very knowledgable staff

Popped in here to try and get a fridge magnet, but alas they did not sell any. Lots of leaflets about the area and attractions. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Catching up on SA history

Spent the public holiday at Glenelg and thought we would stop by the museum. There is no entry fee, however, there are places to donate. The history was interesting and I liked seeing the different bathing suits. There were photos and videos of the old Luna Park in Glenelg. Spent a few dollars on the old penny arcade machines. Well worth a look if you’re down at Glenelg.

Interesting and informative discovery

The Bay Discovery Centre has a great and informative museum upstairs. I went on one of the windiest days in Glenelg and it was a nice way to spend my morning! A fascinating insight into how Glenelg and Adelaide was established, Indigenous influence and how both have changed over the years. I never knew Luna Park was in Glenelg! It’s not an overly big museum, but allows you to read all the information on display in each of the sections. The descriptions took me on a journey and allowed me to picture life once upon a time in Glenelg and broader Adelaide. The front desk staff were very helpful and lovely. In fact I stayed and had a lovely chat to them. They are also happy to recommend places for a bite to eat/coffee. I would highly recommend visiting, as you will definitely come away with more knowledge than you came in the door with!
