Thoroughly enjoyed our 4.5 hour self-guided bike tour along the Huaraki Rail Trail to the Matatoki Cheese Barn. Matthias and Lisa of Jolly Bikes did a fantastic job of organizing this tour: their mountain bikes were in great conditions; they provided mechanical tools, helmets, a map & lunch tokens for the Matatoki Cheese Barn. They also provided a mobile number in case we ran into any mechanical issues. The ride along the Hauraki Rail Trail is scenic and suitable for all riding levels. The Matatoki Cheese barn is a lovely spot for lunch and their organic cheeses and gelato were awesome. Our group of 4 highly recommend Jolly Bikes and this tour!

Jolly Bikes offer a good service for those wishing to enjoy the Hauraki Rail Trail. Becky gave us outstanding service: before we left home, when we collected the bikes in Thames and during the cycle. She is to be congratulated for her commitment. indeed, she remedied some earlier confusion. Our advice would be to ensure cyclists ask about the conditional of the trail, suitable bikes for the conditions and tools needed. Also a good idea to check your itinerary to ensure all relevant details are there. Bikes were in excellent condition with clean helmets, bike bags and gel seats (if required).

Very mixed communication with staff at Jolly Bikes - customer service lacking. We arranged to hire bikes and be transported to Miranda to bike back to Thames - there was no mention of problems with that section of the track when we booked. After days of rain before our trip we looked at the Hauraki Trail website to find it did not recommend riding that section after heavy rain. Contacted Jolly bikes to ask about options - completely inflexible and told us we could not take the bikes on the track but instead could ride on the road - no thanks. When that section of track was then closed completely the day before we were to ride there was no communication from Jolly bikes regarding this and still no refund offered. We rebooked a different section as this was the only option we had. On arrival, staff were disorganised, did not fit us to our bikes or give thorough instructions. Unhelpful and rude on the phone before we arrived and when we phoned (as instructed) to drop the bikes off again. Very disappointing service (though we still had a great time on the trail)

I am Matthias, the business owner and director, writing back to you. I am very sorry that you had to experience our business like that. We definitely should have informed you in advance about the compromise and discussed options with you in a more understanding and supportive way. That is what we normally do.
Your booking fell into a time of unforeseen, sensitive staff turnover, and new staff had to be trained up in a hurry, and may not have acted as professionally as the staff who left us.
We cannot control the weather and other factors influencing the Hauraki Rail Trail riding experience, but of course we can discuss options and modifications with you in a way that you know that we really care.
Our sincere apologies.

Absolute great customer service, Shayne has so much knowledge about bikes and the rail trail, I bought a new bike from Christian and he was superb. I had the misfortune to get a puncture on my first ride it was fixed for no charge, a couple of days later the tyres went flat again, no sure of the cause they fixed again with a new tube and new tyres, no hassle and no fuss, totally appreciated by me. Great team to deal with, so thankyou.

Whilst the mechanic chap, even though I wasn’t using his services, was lovely and offered great advice, not so good on rental side. I rented a pannier ($10) but they put it on back to front and it fell off- a fact I discovered only about 5km afterwards. I had to retrace my steps to find it ( it had my wallet in etc) all the time fearing the worst. Unfortunately on my return the manager offered no apology or offer any sort of customer service, so when I suggested he at least give me my $10 back, he did so with a face on him like I’d taken the last sandwich. It’s all about customer service, mate. You can turn a mistake into a plus just by remembering who the customer is.

We came to rent bikes. They planned out a whole trip for us. Took the time to ask the right questions and really find out what we needed. Great ambassadors for the town and the region.

We hired two bikes from Jolly Bikes to do part of the Hauraki Rail Trail. Jolly Bikes had great communication about being closed the day we wanted to pick up (1 Jan) but they would met us at the store that day anyway so we could collect. Also were good about us being half an hour late to return the bikes the next day as it took us longer than anticipated to get back. They gave great advice about where we should go, with maps etc. Really nice bikes and helmets. Would thoroughly recommend for bike hire and purchases as they have a beautiful selection and are very knowledgeable.

We booked 4 x E-bikes from Jollybikes for aride over to Miranda then down to Paeroa and over to Waihi.
Went like clockwork, despite our changing our booking twice, adding an extra bike at short notice and two changes to the shuttle for both destination and time.
We had a mixture of experienced and "haven't ridden a bike for 50 years" participants ranging from 28 to 70 years of age and it just worked. Brilliant.
The guys at Jollybikes just couldn't do enough for us and I really can't think of anything they could have done better. They even turned on brilliant weather for us :-)Well done to everyone there - you did yourselves proud!

Very prompt helpful service and their bike mechanics are top notch.

If your asking about buying bikes, it really depends on what type of bike your after we have over 6 brands and then it comes down to type and size.
