This was a nice pocket of bush, and the broad walk up in the tree tops was awesome. Only a few old kauris left, but nice to be amongst them. We did this circuit at the end of the walk from the Falls. From AH Reid to the whangarei falls took about 25 mins, not the 45 they say on the signed. It is a pleasant flat walk, could not with push chair or cycle.

Canopy Tree walking and the very old giant Kauri Trees, these are the main attractions of Section 1B of Hatea River Walk. Visitors can go through along the Hatea River Walk, from Whangarei Falls to AH Reed – section 1A, as well as from Town Basin to Mair Park – section 1C, then from Mair Park to AH Reed, section 1B, where you can find the old giant Kauri here. Or you can drive straight away to AH Reed Tree Top walk by parking at Whareroa Road and then walk less than 500m from carpark to the Canopy Tree Walk, you decide it. The Canopy Walk is very attractive, walking as high as 20-30m on the special timber built structures above the ground and stream below, and truly peaceful among the trees and nature.

It is a quick and easy bush experience for those with less time or less than average energy for walking.

Congratulations to those involved for all your hard work - so exciting to see so many native seedlings growing on the forest floor - your pest control must be extensive! A fantastic stop off and leg stretch when heading North.

Wow - what great trees. Good parking although there are warnings about valuables left in cars. You have to go through some bio-security before entering the forest - washing boots etc. There trees are huge and around 500-years old and a walk in the forest is lovely. The noise of the insects and birds is quite deafening in places. A couple of canopy walks are also available for a very different prospective of the forest. Because of all the bio-security I would say that this is not a good place to take and consume food.

Good walk through Kauri trees, up to a pretty waterfall. Lovely and cool in summer. A great waterhole being used by older kids at one end of the walk.

Toiletten vorhanden.

Very nice kauri forest, beautiful pathways and even two canopy walkways. Three trees are huge - 100s of years old. Many singing birds. Trails are well signposted with good information boards. There is a small waterfall reached by steep steps, but can be dry after long drought. Kauri die-back (a fungus) is present, so boot cleaning stations are situated at entry & exit of forest: please use them. Well worth a visit.

Good parking, easy to reach and close to Abbey Caves.
In 30 mins you can easily get to the canopy walk, look at the Karis and nice tall ferns etc.
These 30 mins can easily be expanded by walking e.g. to Whangarei Falls (after doing the Canopy walk) along the river (about 1,5 - 2 hrs return), and there are nice spots on the river, too.
There armany loops to choose from, all are well marked.
Canopy walk also great for families with younger children.

Also very close (5 min drive) to Abbey caves.
Free, good, informative, quick access to Kauri trees and native forest ...

My wife is handicapped so we appreciated the elevated walkway through the forest. The informative signs were helpful to understand what we were looking at.
