We spent many hours here and loved the nature and the buildings. You can walk wonderfully here and get information about buildings and customs.

Incredibly great park (you can spend a good day here, with or without children), very friendly staff and good food. The location is fantastic.
My husband and I were very disturbed by the swastika on the runestone at the entrance. Yes we know it is an old symbol of happiness etc, but 1. there was no explanation on a blackboard or similar and 2. the stone is a replica anyway, as we understood it. 3. are not all symbols on the stone traced with red paint (this one really should not have been painted)

A great time here! The must (for me!) is of course the reconstruction of this gigantic Viking hall. Impressive and beautiful!
The rest (especially the Iron Age village) is also very interesting.
The people who work here are very invested and allow a real time travel: they do not hesitate to inform you and tell you the story:)
Remember to take good shoes: the site is huge and sometimes hilly!

Skøn dag i historiens vingesus …. Vi var afsted med familie…. Skønt sted hvor man kan prøve en masse forskellige ting…. Bueskydning, spydkast, stenkast, ro i robåde, se smeden arbejde, høre folkene på gårdene fortælle, se geder, får, grise, gls, ænder osv osv….. man oplever bosteder fra stenalder, jernalder, vikingetid osv osv…… det hele ligger skønt placeret i Lejre…. Og så var der jo også den helt fantastiske vikingehal….. så fantastisk bygget, fortæller virkeligt om egnens vikinger….
Alt i alt en super dejlig oplevelse som kan anbefales til alle aldre👍🏼😄

Lejre Land of Legends is a thematic Park about Vikings era and it is located in Sjaelland Island, the island in the country, where Copenhagen is located. I came here with my 7 years old daughter to see a lot of Viking places like a Vikings house, where you can play with objects and Viking weapons and also you can see the typical rooms of a Viking house. Also there are some reproductions of burial mounds, burial stones and viking landscapes. Also, children can play and do some activities like go by boat, shoot arrows, dress like a Viking warrior and some others. Very interesting.

Well worth the travel out of Copenhagen.
Viking Kings Hall (Long House) = CHECK
Fun activities = CHECK
Nice walk through history = CHECK
Plan for at least 3 hours, best with 4 hours. Bring a lunch and enjoy the picnic areas.

Spring Saturday with sun.
We were aunt, grandfather and grandchildren aged 6 & 8
We started with clay, always fun.
Moved on to archery, really good instructor.
Ate a brought bun, had a ride in a rowing boat.
On to archeology sandboxes.
We had brought a tow truck, you CANNOT borrow another one.
I finally asked them to name the best experience, only one they said.
Everyone is different and in Sagnlandet you will find space, experiences, nature and finally take a packed lunch with you.

This was an excellent day out.
My son is 2 and a half and he was fully engaged the whole time we were there. He fed animals, played with clay and dug for treasure in the sand. He met vikings, made a bracelet and decorated an egg for Easter. We also rowed a little boat around the lake. Highly recommend for families with children!!

A historical re-enactment of a Viking village suitable for both adults and children. A visit is recommended. Reachable by public transport from the main cities.

Tolles Gelände. Schöne kleine Aktivitäten für jüngere Kinder. Für die Großen interessant. Zum Beispiel darf man Schwerter und Prunkhelme in der Königshalle anschauen und anfassen und die originalgekleidete Person vor Ort erzählt freundliche und liebevoll darüber. Die dort für uns Besucher Wohnenden stellen das Leben von damals nach. Schön gemacht. Allerdings ist es bei Regen nur für Erwachsene und Jugendliche interessant. Alle Aktivitäten finden auf Grund des Regens nicht statt. Dafür muss man sich das Gelände nicht mit vielen Menschen teilen. Das Essen im schönen Kaffee ist sehr teuer. Wiener mit Brötchen 10 Euro. Aber man kann sich Picknick mitbringen. Plätze dafür sind genug vorhanden.

Vi vil meget gerne holde fødselsdag i forsøgscentret (min far er opvokset i Vidsøhuset og jeg er fra gl. Lejre).
Men kan det lade sig gøre? Vi tænkte at bestille mad fra Herthadalen og og sidde ude hvis vejret tillader det.
Er det muligt at komme indendørs hvis det regner?
Hvis det kan lade sig gøre er der brochurer om det?

Der er en indendørs cafe, og der er konferencelokaler. Cafeen er hyggelig nok, men indretning og atmosfære passer ikke til den fremragende mad fra Herthadalen. Konferencelokalerne vil kræve bookning hos Sagnlandet.
Hvis det regner, er I bedre tjent med at spise hos Herthadalen. Det er I under alle omstændigheder. Deres mad er så god, at det vil være synd at bruge den til en picnic. Der vik jeg i stedet foreslå en burger fra Cafe Valhalla i Gevninge. Den spiste vi selv til Skt. Hans på et picnictæppe.

Hello,
Can you tell me if Lejre has authentic buildings like viking fortress or burial ground. I know they portray viking times but we are trying to decide between Lejre or Trelleborg where there is a real viking fortress.
Any thoughts?

In Lejre Land of Legends we don't have an original fortress of burial ground. (But sooo much else, though!)
The original Viking Kingshall, that we are currently reconstructing and the original stoneship-setting (which was a burial grave and where archeologists have excavated 54 graves) where located 2,5 kilometer from Lejre Lands of Legends, right by our smaller neighbor Lejre Museum. I would recommend a combination visit, to see both the original find (Beware: Viking remains are not like pyramids still standing, the original Kingshall are marked with a smal row of turf in the landscape, and of the original stoneship-setting are only some 20 stones left. the excavated graves, are not visible. Lejre Museum do have a small exhibition of some of the treasure finds, and other viking objects from the Kingshall area. the same goes for the fortress by Trelleborg, where the circular earthwork is the only part of the fortress that have survived the test of time).
I would recommend you a trip starting at Lejre Museum, to see the original remain, then continue to visit us in Lejre Land of Legend and experience the reconstruction (that are right now just starting up) to really get a sense of the splendor and scale of the Kinghall of the earliest danish Viking kings. (More than 60 meters long and 12 meter wide, it is Humongous, and enormously impressive. That I would say, (although of course I cannot be considered objective:-)) is a Must-see.
The only exception is if you are traveling in week 29, and only have time to spend one day on the vikings. Then I would choose Trelleborg, that every year hosts the largest vikingfestival in Denmark, with around 1100 volunteer viking reenactors.
I hope, no matter what you choose, that you have a fantastic holiday in Denmark.

It really depends on which time of year you go. If it's during warmer periods, then you should spend at least half a day, especially if your kids enjoy the outdoors.

If you go to their website (sagnlandet.dk) - then click on the English flag, you will find information on activities and opening dates/hours.
Best time to visit Denmark generally is probably from May to September, warmest in the summer.

The trains from Copenhagen to Lejre station goes two times an hour mondays to Fridays and once an hour on saturdays an sundays. From Lejre station you can take a bus directly to the door of Land of Legends - it goes once an hour on all opening days. To check the exact timetabel visit rejseplanen.dk (Official travelplanning site of the Danish train and bus operator) - in the top right corner you choose language and switch the site to English.
