Heads up “No swimming”

A beautiful area to camp however there were no pre warnings before we had already paid for a couple of nights that we were unable to swim in the lake due to a amoeba called Naegleria Fowleri which causes Amoebic Meningitis. We had even phoned ahead of time to ask if they were opened. I would have thought the right thing to do then was to give us the heads up. With 32 degrees days it was unbearable. You do get used to the train going every 10-15 minute throughout the day and night and the constant running noise of the power station opposite. But without the opportunity to cool off when every other lake around the area was open gave us little choice but to move.

Lakeside camping

I would say peaceful except for the trains (extra long haulagewhich go all night. My advice is to park further away near the lake

Quiet and Relaxing

Visited Lake Liddell for a few days in between work trips in the area. It was mid week but very calm and peaceful, barely saw another person. Dropped off the money for our stay ($9 per person per night in an unpowered campsite) and drove round till we found somewhere that suited us.

Lots of birds and trees, beautiful view of the lake (though can't avoid the power plant).
Facilities were clean, and maintained regularly even though there were few others here. There's showers, portable water, a structure with some BBQ's and evening lights, and some other onsite activities.

The lake is off limits due to a nasty amoeba but that can't be helped

A hidden gem

Found this accommodation on wiki camps app. Coming from Armidale on our way down the coast. There are several powered sites, a dump point and there is water for refills. You can pick your own spot when we were here. There are also several un powered sites. The amenities are cleaned daily.
The place is great, unfortunately no fishing is allowed anymore due to the power plant near by.

Returning campers

Our family and friends love visiting lake Liddell for both day trips and camping trips. The caretakers are so lovely and accommodating. Several Powered and unpowered sites, able to hook up to water also. Have frequently gone skiing and swimming. Can be windy so we take kites with us too. Also have laser tag and a rock climbing wall do great for camping in large groups.

"BACK TO NATURE"

We found this somewhat different camp ground on Wikicamps. It is about 15kms out of Muswellbrook in NSW and it is bitumen all the way there. If you are a no frills type of camper and are fully self contained including your own water then a few days here is ideal. They have got electricity in one section which can serve about four diffrent sites, none which are marked so you just set up wherever. Amenities are clean and have hot water, perhaps a little primitive in finish some might say, which is great. You can still have a camp fire and purchase firewood on site. It is great to have the lake but nobody seems to use it, possibly because of the power stations/coal. It was a really relaxing few days for us and thankyou to our hosts for making it just that.
