After watching David Haymans series on interesting places in Scotland we decided to visit some of these points of interest ourselves.
We travelled from Aberdeen to Fortingall to Visit this location , and I am so glad we did.
We have travelled all over Scotland over the years ,but this journey opened up a part of Scotland which we never even knew existed. What a beautiful and tranquil location it turned out to be. It was far better than we expected it to be.
The Yew tree was located in a church yard , and free of charge to visit. The Yew is surrounded by a wall and the gate is locked so you can’t actually get hands on, which is understandable.
We were blown away at the incredible age of this magnificent old tree.
If any of us look that good after 5000 years then we should be quite happy.

Had planned a short walk from the village then read about the Yew. Interesting signs explaining its long history. It has some thatched cottages which are unusual in Scotland. Can park between church and hotel except Sundays when there is a service

Although I have lived most of my life within 35 miles, this was my first visit to the old yew tree. Although it is obscured by the walls built around it to protect it from vandals and souvenir hunters (visitors rather than locals), I was in awe of the wonder of this living relic - the oldest tree in Scotland and the UK (and probably in Europe). It is located in the grounds of the hamlet of Fortingall's parish church (itself a gem), adjacent to the graveyard. There are very limited parking places and the main road is itself very narrow (please be patient and don't.block the road).

This was a lovely stop en route to Kenmore via the scenic route. Lovely little churchyard with so much history. Lots of information provided for those who are interested in the Yew tree. Worth seeing and appreciating it simply for what it is.

A worthwhile trip to be in the presence of something so old and yet so alive. Full of needles and starting to flower, please respect the Yew and appreciate why it is in a walled area!

A little off the beaten track but well worth the visit - take the stone paving path and take a little time to try and understand what this oldest living thing in the UK (possibly Europe) has endured and experienced through the passage of time!

It's not really possible to talk about how it feels to visit a tree which has survived 3,000+ years.

If you visit (and you really should!) please respect this ancient yew. Don't jump the wall or tear off bark/ branches/ needles nor take any cuttings. It threatens the tree's health.

Some people will say, "Its just a tree" but for those who love history and have an affinbity with nature, the Fortingall Yew is a must visit. Incredible that a tree has survived for so long.

We didn't know what to expect, so we were pleasantly surprised at the thought put into this small site. The path leading to the Yew is imaginative-innovative. It is amazing to think of what the Yew itself has survived. It is next to a bonnie a church as I ever saw, with a couple of poignant war memorials to locals who fell on D-Day +1 and in Germany. Glad we came.

We visited on a very wet day but still enjoyed the pathway timeline in the church yard leading to the tree which highlghted events that have happened within the tree's lifetime. We also went into the church which was lovely. We were horrified to find that someone had stolen the 7thC bell (mentioned in the Rough Guide) just a couple of years ago! Worth a stop.
