As a 4 plus dog we recently visited Fairhaven for a walk through the woodland culminating in a lunchtime visit to the tearoom, the walk around the woodland was great could have been better; work going on and restrictions to a few areas that we previously enjoyed; Boat trip was ace as usual, however… lunch was 2nd rate, we ordered individually a 2 then a 2, there was an awkward wait between one order and the next, we asked if all the food could come out together for obvious reasons however 1 meal came out then 3 mins later another then 5 mins later then another But the 2 mins later we were told that my wife’s choice (same as one of our party) was not available please choose an alternative! So hurriedly she chose an option that was in the end really poor,,, in fact both she and I left most of our food, very poor offering, we have been to this place at least 5 times before, this time they really dropped the ball: staff were below par, and to top it all the special we were denied was still on the menu board as we left 30 mins later….Oooops

Lovely place. Nice cafe. I would take a picnic though as lots of nice places to sit and rest and have a bit of lunch. Boat trip on the broads a must. Really relaxing. Visited for 3 hours with dogs and walked most of it including the short boat ride . Obviously most plants gone over due to time of year but still very enjoyable. Not your formal gardens but a fantastic nature reserve with lots to see. Definitely worth a visit.

After visiting Norfolk and specifically the Broads area several times over the last few years we decided to visit Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden and were impressed with the attraction. The walk down to the Broad was lovely through the trees, plants and flowers trying to get some good photographs of the bees, butterflies and dragonflies. After a few days of good weather the paths were more than navigable for my son in his powered wheelchair and our dog really enjoyed his day judging by the sleep he had afterwards. The drinks and cakes we had from the on-site cafe were nice and much needed after our walk. There were a few small areas undergoing upgrade works on the walkways but obviously this is a good thing for future visitors. I would recommend visitors hiring a motility scooter from the on-site facility if required and the user is able to as I personally wouldn’t like to push a manual chair around the large area. I’m still waiting to get a good photograph of the ever elusive Kingfisher though.

This is good for the fit and young and dog walkers - acres of paths - it is extensive.
Wander at will through the greenery or up to the broad. Less good for those with little stamina - and lots of uneven pathways. Do not take the top path to the broad as it is boring, no seating along the first section . There are seats dotted through the lower pathway. Sadly little colour this time of year, did not see much wildlife apart from the ducks who are used to being fed and come rushing. The water gardens are obviously suffering from lack of funds, and maintenance. Lots of trees that had not been properly cleared away after cutting down. Beware that some rails and decking is not solid. There is only one disable parking space which probably says it all.
There were people there in mobility scooters - and the cafe is pleasant. Service was a little slow but they were busy - nice selection of cakes. The sausage roll at almost £3 was expensive but very good. There is wifi in the cafe area. Saving grace , outside the cafe were little sheds with seats and second hand books for sale, plus two nice places to sit out, one in front of the cafe and one the other side.
They do canoe and paddle board trips plus a boat on the broad. Live music on certain dates and in the winter a Christmas lights trail.
In summary - it is expensive to get in so to make it value for money you need to be able to spend some time exploring, walking to the broad or go to listen to the music. For locals it is good value to buy an annual pass - but you can just go to the cafe! For those with limited walking ability go and park by the nearby Ranworth Broad - a lot less of a trek.

I'm a wheelchair at present due to an accident. Decided to go here as I love the boardwalks on the broads and missing being out in my garden and fell for the marketing which every second word is accessible. I expected the majority of paths to be boardwalks and the gardens to very well maintained considering the entrance fee.
On arrival sad to see rough parking area and only 1 disabled bay again on rough ground not suitable for wheelchairs. We got shouted at by a fellow guest for stopping here but he soon shut up when he spotted the chair (we did move the car to another spot too)
We asked when buying tickets if its accessible and was assured the paths were well maintained with flatterned mud and boardwalks but sadly the paths were not well maintained. There was tree roots everywhere and they had used type 1 mot gravel in areas making it tough going in the chair. A number of tines the chair almost topped over and my partner almost got blisters on his hands
So upsetting. The gardens are not maintained with weeds clearly in the wrong places and stinging nettles everywhere. Boardwalks dangerous too with missing handrails. Rotten and damaged boards.
Cafe rubbish too with basic offerings.
Glad we tried as it could have been good but just a waste of money. Tourist trap perhaps and not worth a visit.. embarrassing even. Other boardwalks including free ones far better.

Very soon after arriving yesterday we were walking with our dog in the woodland close to a small duck pond when suddenly our dogs face and head were covered in wasps. I dragged her away along the path pulling wasps off her as we ran along.
We immediately returned to the visitor centre to ask if they sold Piriton which they did not. A member of staff told us there was a Coop in Acle where we should be able to get some. After a very swift drive there we found they did not stock them. Being a Sunday afternoon we were told the only place to get them was Boots in Yarmouth, so we rushed there. I waited nearby in the car comforting our dog while my wife ran to Boots only to be told that they couldn’t sell them to us as they were for a dog. En route we contacted an emergency vet who told us exactly what to get and dosage to give her. Relaying this apparent didn’t cut any ice with the pharmacist, even though my wife offered to let him speak to the vet. Therefore I went alone to Boots and bought some stating they were for my hay fever. To our relief the swelling on her face went down soon after, but we continued to the vets many miles away to get her checked over and they kept her in overnight as a precaution - we should be picking her up this morning. We don’t know what happened to another dog whose owners told us as we were leaving Fairhaven their dog was stung on the eyes and nose at the same location just after out dog was. It was clear Fairhaven were short staffed but hopefully someone has now had sense to cordon off the path by the pond so other dogs, people / children don’t suffer the same misfortune.
P.S a packet of Piriton will always be in my wife’s bag from now on!

What an idyllic experience to paddle along the tranquil waterways of Fairhaven Gardens before heading out to the open water of the broad today.
Our experienced guide, Chris, told us that the garden’s waterways had been dredged recently thereby allowing canoes access to a wonderful water trail through the forest. It was a truly magical 2 hour paddle through lily pads and alongside insects and birds.
Out on the broad we were treated to herons and a harrier about their business. Given our midweek trip, there was next to no one out on the water and it felt like we had nature all to ourselves.
We’d said to Chris that we were after an adventure and he took us at our word: the final part of the trip saw us pushing through dense reeds, overhanging plants and wild lily pads to reach a secluded part of the wetland; a genuinely wonderful exploration of a part of Norfolk that I had never been to before.
Chris’ calm demeanour and clear love of the water helped to make this a memorable trip.

Well after reading their brochure we visited this woodland with high expectations but very sadly these expectations were quickly extinguished after we had paid an extortionate amount of nearly £60 for 6 adults and 2 children. There was very little to see in the woodland apart from trees and drab walks with poorly maintained paths and old wooden walkways which had seen better days. There was even a warning cone to show a piece of the walkway which had given way and was a danger to kids. Quite a few of the paths were taped off, there was supposed to be music in the park which we were told was cancelled and the boat trips were cancelled as well. As far as wildlife goes I saw three butterflies on the butterfly walk, an odd dragon fly here and there and not a single bird to be seen from the bird hide. The only highlight was probably the view of the broads but there was not even a single boat sailing on it. So overall very under whelming especially for the two young children who love the outdoors.

Tranquil walk through beautiful woodland. Staff were really friendly and welcomed our four paws! The 50 minute boat trip around the broads was excellent, Steve, our skipper shared history and information of the broads, all very interesting, thank you.
We had a coffee and breakfast ciabatta at the cafe, great service and good food.
Will definitely recommend this as a place to visit to friends and family. Don’t change a thing, it’s perfect!

We were looking forward to returning to the gardens after several years absence but the visit didn't start well, when the Gardeners World membership 2 for 1 offer didn't apply to concessions, despite this not being stated in the booklet, as is the case for other sites we have visited.
In the garden itself, some work has been carried out on the dykes, apparently to permit use by canoes, but this seems to have been at the expense of the plants. Very few candelabra primulas alongside the paths and wooden walkways, compared to the thousands that used to be there.
Biggest disappointment was the boat trip to St Benet's Abbey. No cruise around South Walsham Broad to look for water birds or kingfishers, just a straight course across the broad to the dyke that connects to the River Bure.
Upon reaching the Bure, there was a brief mention of St. Benet's Abbey history while the boat was turned around and in less than a minute we were heading back down the dyke to the gardens. Apart from a glimpse of the mill tower, we saw nothing of the abbey ruins themselves .

Hi, once paid can you go in and out of the place? i.e to get lunch from the car. Do you get your hand stamped or show your entry ticket upon reentering?

The car park is on site and open to go to and from. You get a receipt when you enter so as long as you keep it you shouldn’t have any problems.

Thank you for your question.
There isn't a family day ticket at Fairhaven Garden. Entry is adult £6.85, concessions £6.60, child £3.95 (under 5 free).
There is an annual family membership - £55 for parents, or parent and partner, and their children 5 to 16.

Yes, dogs on leads are very welcome and water/drinking bowls are provided. There is a small charge for dogs (25p) to cover the cost of a poop scoop.
