Beautiful art to see and find in the Verbeke foundation museum. You get a plan and visit. Inside you see a bit of everything but outside it is really an adventure in the backyard. Narrow paths lead somewhere and meanwhile you come across sculptures and artworks that blend in with nature. Beautiful, all of them. We had a good time for 3 hours. We love to come back. With teacher card we paid 10€ each. And the cake in the cafe was very tasty.

Inside cool space with cool works, outside much thick against ...
But overall it makes a dirty impression on me....
The cleaning lady has been retired here for a long time. Lots of cobwebs, dust, dirty toilets (opens at 11.15am)...
Outside a lot of overdue green maintenance.
Gives more impression of a dump of scrap iron and construction waste in a forest than art.
No signage...
You won't see me again. Luckily the weather was good.

I want to apologize in advance because probably it's just us, but what is that there young? "Art"? Of course you have to be open-minded (which my wife and I certainly are) but this is about it we thought. Inside stuffed animals and everything on strong water of which the initial Owner probably died and his collection was donated to the foundation. (The coffins were nice inside). Then outside: I think there are many old-iron marchands more "art" on ulderenhof than here. A few old construction cranes, some old iron welded into "horses", an "igloo" of broken fridges, tombstones transformed into art etc.... and to top it off a mountain of sand! Really a mountain of sand, come on! I happily spend 13€ per person to see something and much more, but this is over!
I apologize again because one probably has to have a certain degree of ??? to like this, but that is not the case with us. I hope I was allowed to write this down here and certainly do not want to kick any artist in the shins.

A location with many different Things to do. Something for everyone! Both inside and outside it is pure enjoyment. There is a very soothing atmosphere and it is not possible to look at everything thoroughly in an afternoon so.. we will go back again!

Small warning: not suitable for vegans and people who care about animals. The current exhibition contains a lot of stuffed animals arranged with little taste and respect. The living animals in the garden also have little room to move. The garden is pretty.

Modern art requires a word of explanation. Without explanation, most items are not really understandable. Let your own imagination work, because explanations are not part of it. Outside everything is decaying and inside it is no better, but with a huge layer of dust. Untidy and poorly maintained, or is that the way it is with modern art?

This is an extraordinary place. Seemingly totally chaotic layers of natural beauty/left-wild areas and working bee hives, the remains of a zoo with cute African Parrots, the salvaged museum collections of Victorian era insects and stuffed mammals and birds and piles of debris from our modern use of materials used as installations - all commenting on our (mid)-use of global resources. The coffee is good too.

I have wanted to visit this 'museum' for some time now. Mainly installations, not really my thing, and especially not because one seemed more 'disturbed' than the other. Also lots of stuffed animals, in creepy cupboards, in strong water in jars, pieces of animals in glass jars, even live animals in cages under the guise of 'art'. Seemed more like food for a horror film than for a museum. I left with really bad vibes. Visual arts were barely present and what was present was just as freeky than the rest. Furthermore, outdoor areas are in complete disrepair, or they are deliberately kept that way to enhance the gray and nightmarish atmosphere that prevails. I'll never come back here again.

We visited this place with the children (11 years and 14 years) and we were not bored for a second. It was nice that there was something completely new to discover behind every corner. I think we will go back again in the summer. (during our visit it was freezing)
