What a gorgeous national park of a stunning Alpine setting , mountain peaks, high passes , great flora and fauna, lovely hikes. A trip to Slovenia wouldn't be the same without it!

We drove this circular route around the mountain on a clear sunny day. The scenery is special with quite a few stops along the way. The 50 switchbacks up the pass weren’t too bad, and the drop into the lovely Soca valley was worth the trip. At the end of the circuit, we were surprised to find out we were 2 hours from Bled along winding narrow roads. That was the challenging part. Next time, I’d break the route in half and spend the night in Bovec, which was cute and charming. Otherwise, it makes for a long day.

what a beautiful national park , in fact, the only national park in Slovenia. you can drive through the entire park without paying a fee. you only pay if you visit selected sites that are chargeable.
in reality, the roads weave in and out of national park and go through villages, homestead etc. so some of the sites listed below actually are not part of the NP grounds but are in close vicinity.
Vrsic Pass is driveable in mid-May, but there is already barely any show on the ground and not much at mountain peaks. altitude is fairly low compared to other Alps region in other parts of Europe.
The interesting sites to me include
- Soca Valley
- Tolmin Gorge
- Slap Kozjak
- Slap Pericnik
- Lake Bohinj
- Vintgar Gorge
The so-so sites to me
- Slap Boka
- Slap Savica

Being April, there was still plenty of snow on the ground at altitude, which limits hiking, but makes for a beautiful and fun time. So much to see and do. The Vrsic Pass being a good start and introduction.

Beautiful landscape, from green valleys to rocky peaks with eternal snow, streams, rivers and waterfalls. Nature is well preserved and protected. Wild animals can often be seen, especially in higher areas. Be sure to visit.

A hike not to be missed but we went the long way to the top, and so glad we did!
We parked (free) next to the ‘Nordijski centre Planica’ and started the walk through the woodland which was amazing in the autumn.
In under an hour you reach a clearing with a cafe and the ascent starts there at the back of the building.
The views are just amazing all the way through, really easily marked path with red marks on trees and rocks as you’re going. The incline up the gorge is a little tricky so not for any beginners and walking poles really came in handy.
Off to the left then there’s a little more woodland before the snow appeared and we reached the top. Views all around at the top we’re just unreal. You could actually see mountains in Italy and Austria it’s so close to the border.
We didn’t pass a single person on the route after the cafe and that was amazing, so peaceful. We saw plenty of people at the top and that’s when we realised there was a much easier path for all abilities inc kids that we missed but we loved our route for the quiet, views and a little challenge!
It was 6 hours from start to getting back to the car, including 2 stops on the way up and about 20-30 mins at the top. Really rewarding hike, take plenty of water and snacks with you, proper walking boots are needed, warm layers, hat and gloves for the top! It was a gorgeous sunny day but still very cold for us in October.
One of the best days of my life would really recommend this route

The Slemenova Spica hike (in the Julian Alps in Triglav National Park near the famous skiing center of Krajnska Gora) is one of the most popular hikes in Slovenia. You can find more details on the website 10adventures dot com.
The hike takes you up in more than 1800 metres height and gives you the pleasure of stunning mountain views. Back and forth it’ll take you 2-3 hours.
You will meet people in all ages - also 10 year old kids - but don’t let anyone fool you. This hike is NOT a walk in the park! We are in good shape and we were exhausted. I recommend good trekking shoes and preferably walking sticks.
The narrow path is steep and rocky, and the air is thinner. But still - Slemenova Spica is a marvellous opportunity to really WALK in the mountains without climbing.
If you are reasonably fit the Slemenova Spica hike is a must-do in Slovenia.

Hello everybody, I just arrived at Ribčev Laz and I gotta say - what a beautiful country you have :)!
The only bad thing that happened today was that I found that there is nobody in my group who wants to climb Triglav with me. But to the point - is there anyone that is going there this week and wouldn't mind young czech man in their group? Reply or hit me up with a DM :).
P. S.
I've left my flip-flops at home 😁.

Hello, I want to do some hiking solo around the park in particular the lakes. I wanted to check what sort of danger there is in terms of wildlife, in particular, snakes? I am petrified of them and wonder the chances of seeing any. Thank you!

I stayed in Ljubljana and made a day trip. If you are staying at the park you will find it busy in August... But accommodation can be found in private AirBnB - just choose something close to what you want to do whether it is hiking or the lake...

Hi,
My family and I are planning for a day trip to triglav national park, can we drive between the spots (Bohinji lake, river and waterfall)? because not all of us will be able to walk for long distances. Thanks

Hi. You can drive with a car, but be prepared to pay some more for parking. The area is pricy, because the officials want to convince people to park at Bohinjska Bistrica (in example) and then use free public transportation. More: write bohinj.si and parking in your web browser.

Can anyone recommend a hiking Guide for Hire?
I have an awesome group of 10 adventurous hikers interested in exploring the trails around the Julian Alps. We intended to backpack the new 186 mile Julian Alps trail. The maps were supposed to be out in June. I have read a Slovenian newspaper article that states the trail will now not be open until September. I have been told that the trails already exist. I am not confident enough to hike the trails without a detailed map. We are interested in hiring a guide. My group will arrive in Bled on August 23rd. We would like to hike Starting on August 24th until the 30th. We are interested in hiking the trails from Bled to Bovec but are flexible
Hi all.
I will be visiting Lake Bled and Triglav National Park on 2nd to 5th July. I was wondering if anyone could help us with working out how to get into the national park. We don’t have a lot of money so to us the best way seemed to be to stay in Bled and go for the day to Triglav as accommodation is expensive within the park. Could anyone tell me how to travel from Bled to the park, we were thinking by bus? Or is there somewhere cheaper and easier to stay to get into the national park.
Thanks
Lauren and Tom

There is a travel center right in town next to the bus station in Lake Bled. You can either schedule a van to take you, or take a local bus that takes travelers to different areas of the park. Different hostels have buses that go into the park as well, depending on where you are staying. In all, visit the travel center and they can point you in the right direction. The central Bled bus station is located on the north-east part of the lake, 3 minutes walking distance from the lake, at the cross-section of the roads Cesta svobode and Grajska cesta. Enjoy your trip!

Hello. There are several paths to the top of Triglav, some of them aren't too hard. If you are an experienced mountaineer, then there shouldn't be a problem, otherwise, I strongly advise NOT to climb Triglav.
Of course, you need a helmet, mountain shoes, clothes for all weather conditions, enough water and food for a day... And I advise climbing in July or August.
It is forbidden to sleep in a tent In the National Park Julian Alps. You can sleep in many cottages near Triglav (Kredarica, Planika, Dolič...), it is good to make a reservation.

My family and I are planning to visit Triglav but we will only be staying for 2 nights which we only have 1 full day to explore Triglav this June 2019.
I am not sure if we should stay in Kranjska Gora or Bohinj.
Any advise?
What I look for is definitely the very nice view of the lake and the mountain in the back.
