Count Tisza Istvan - the prime minister of Hungary in the period of 1913 and 1918 (prior to and during WWI). His full name was Tisza Istvan Imre Lajos Pal count of Szeged and Borosjeno (for those familiar with this place - it is the currently the city of Ineu in Romania - back in the early 1900's it was part of Hungary).
So Tisza Istvan - a count, politician, minister in the Austrian-Hungarian parliament, prime minister and he was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Science - he was a representing figure of the Hungarian political elite there is no doubt.
His monument in the Kossuth square consists of the figure of the count in the front and to his side figures representing the common people (a soldier with his lover/wife, a farmer with a scythe in his hand with another women leaning towards him , workers, scientist/teacher) - and it is representing the activities the count was involved in during his life and as prime minister.
Overall the monument it is interesting - although the character of Tisza Istvan remains a controversial one (will not write here about the his activities, his assassinations in Oct 1918, hi political activities, etc.) but this is something for you to discover.

One of several monuments near the Parliament Building. This one remembers Istvan Tisza who was twice Prime Minister of Hungary including at the start of WWI. He is certainly a polarizing figure but to suggest that he was an initiator of WWI is somewhat controversial. He was actually against going to war but realized that ending the alliance with Germany would have meant the end of Austria-Hungary as a Great Power, so he gave in and supported the war. He was assassinated by leftist revolutionaries in 1918.

There are several monuments on Kossuth Lajos Square and one that intrigued me was in honour of Istvan Tisza.
Count Istvan Imre Lajos Pal Tisza De Borosjeno Et Szeged ( 1861-1918 ) was a member of the elite Hungarian upper class ,a political scientist,international lawyer,macroeconomist and a trusted member of the Hungarian Academy Of Scientists and Prime Minister ,on the day Hungary declared it's independence during the Aster Revolution on the 31st of October 1918 he was assassinated by leftist revolutionaries ,it's a grand looking statue ,the bronze figures are really well detailed ,the monument as a whole very eye catching ,it's a monument to most definitely check out if you're in the area and easy to locate on Kossuth Lajos Square.

This was a lovely crafted statue and is grand is stature and sits prominently outside the Hungarian parliament building.
In studying the personage who it represents, it can be a polarizing figure. A bureaucrat who became a prime minister, a member of the elite, a person who helped initiate the first world war and who was assassinated after Hungary declared its independence.
Worth a look for a statue but make up your own mind about the person it represents.

This monument adjacent to the Hungarian Parliament begs the question of why? Tisza Istvan was a member of the rich elite and eventual Prime Minister of Hungary. But he supported continuation of power in the hands of the elite, opposed land reform, fought against extending voting rights, and was generally unpopular among the general public. He was assassinated on the day that Hungary declared its independence and dissolved the Austro-Hungarian Empire against the wishes of Tisza. Not exactly the kind of character who normally warrants a monument! Of course, Budapest has an incredible appetite for statues and monuments, so...

Újra fölállított szoborrekonstrukció, a múlt imádata hevében. Gróf Tisza István miniszterelnököt meggyilkolták 1918-ban.

Le monument en honneur de l'ancien premier ministre se trouve sur la place Kossuth autour du parlement où elle a été installé en 2014 seulement. Il y avait en sa place un autre monument détruit pendant la guerre, et maintenant tout est revenu en ordre.
L'homme politique conservateur est décédé àla fin de la 1ère guerre mondiale juste après son dernier mandat de ministre, et le monument le célèbre comme un homme de la patrie.
On voit la mère regardant le soldat blessé, la mère en détresse et la couronne de laurier pour l'honneur du grand homme.
Mais l'ensemble est assez lourd avec la grosse colonne de marbre au milieu et les personnages très sombres autour du socle.

A pompous monument next to the parliament is dedicated to Istvan Tisa, a millionaire who became a bureaucrat (this is called merging business and power). Having twice been Prime Minister of Hungary, he was one of the initiators of World War I, as a result of which hundreds of thousands of Hungarians died on the battlefields, Austria-Hungary collapsed, and Hungary itself lost half of its territory. Naturally, Tisa was killed during the revolution.

This is one of many attractive monuments that populate the small parks that surround the Parliament buildings. In this case, it commemorates a Count who was also a Prime Minister.
